Hi I'm Melinda

I am working mother of two teenage sons. My husband, sons and I are active in the scouting program. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Melinda. The most important roles I play wife and mom of two teenage boys. I also work outside the home in the criminal justice field. I have worked with victims, juvenile and adult offenders during my career. My major in college was Social Work and I have been able to incorporate my education a great deal in my work. I enjoy reading and going to yard sales in my free time.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a protestant faith which provided an excellent foundation of the gospel in my life. I have fond memories of Sunday and Bible School classes and the seasons of Advent and Lent. I met many wonderful christians and appreciated the commitment to their faith. In my early 20s a co-worker introduced me to the Mormon church. While learning about their faith, it wasn't so much what I was being taught, but how I felt when being taught. Their doctrine rang true with me and I felt happy. I came to more fully understand the role of the holy ghost who guides, enlightens and protects us. I gained an appreciation of modern day prophets who provide direction that help us live happier, righteous lives. Most importantly, I learned that I am a child of God. He loves and knows me personally. He sent his son Jesus Christ to atone for my sins so that I may return to him. My testimony continues to grow. As I follow the Lord's commandments I am able to serve those around me whether it be at home, church, at work or in the community. I am grateful for my membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and our goal to love, serve and bring all unto Christ.

How I live my faith

Currently I serve in the church with a program especially designed for women called the Relief Society. With the help of a committee, I coordinate monthly enriching activities for women in our church. We encourage and welcome guests. Some of the recent activities have been learning how to perform geneology online and a presentation on the culture of Hong Kong followed by learning how to make spring rolls. I am also a visiting teacher and enjoy interaction with several women with whom I have been assigned to in our church to spend a little extra time with each month. These women have taught me a great deal as I have learned to love and serve them.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Melinda
I do believe President Monson is a prophet like Moses. This gives me great comfort that God has not forgotten us and placed someone on the earth to help guide, lead and direct us. Show more Show less
