Hi I'm Tim

I am married to an amazing woman, and I'm the father of 5 happy children. I teach mathematics, and fencing in Rochester, New York.

About Me

I grew up living in many different places including Bellevue, Washington; Pocatello, Idaho; Saipan in the Norther Marianas Islands, and a few different places in Kentucky (Prestonsburg, Morehead, and Lexington). I currently teach college level mathematics and introductory saber fencing. I have been involved with various hobbies and interests over the years including martial arts (Kung Fu and Aikido), music (guitar, piano, clarinet), computer gaming, military history, and Zen and Toaist philosophy. I served a two year mission for the church in Michigan, so I get to joke that while most people leave home for their missions, I was sent home for mine.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, believed strongly in its teachings, but for many years I lacked the strength of character to live according to its teachings. I ended up spending a number of years outside the church, but then realized my happiness relies on my relationship with my savior, Jesus Christ. Through much prayer, meditation, and scripture study, I realized that my Father in Heaven expected me to return whole-heartedly to the church, which I did more than 10 years ago. Because of my association with the church, I was finally able to seek help for chronic difficulties in my life. I am currently being treated for ADHD, chronic depression, and the various addictions that arose because I spent so many years "self-medicating" these disorders. While it may sound like I'm a mess, the point is, without the church, the restored gospel, and especially the atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ, the term "mess" would be a huge understatement. Today, I am happy. I am in a strong marriage, I have a good career, and I am a good father. All of these are direct blessings from my result of my close adherence to the restored gospel and the faith in Christ that I have been brought to through the church.

How I live my faith

Because of the teachings of the modern prophets, coupled with the teachings of Christ and the prophets in the scriptures, I have finally realized that there is nothing I can do to heal myself, or save myself. Only the atonement of the savior is strong enough, broad enough, and deep enough to encompass all of my weaknesses and failings. I live my faith by, everyday, seeking to sacrifice my will and being swallowed up in the grace of Christ. By Grace [ I ] am saved, lest I should boast. Because of His unfathomable grace, I want to serve Him, and be like Him in all that I do, and say, and think.
