Hi I'm Janet

I was born and raised in Birmingham,England with my two sisters. I have two grown up daughters. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a Medical Secretary at the local hospital, and have been doing that for almost 6 years now. I enjoy my work, as each letter I deal with is slightly different from the last. I went to college as a mature student, in preparation for this job. Before that I was a stay at home mum to my two daughters, who are now 21 and 22 years old. I was unfortunately widowed when my girls were very young, so have been both Mum and Dad to them for a long time. I love reading all sorts of things, from contemporary fiction to biographies and history books, especially about Scotland where my family originated. I also enjoy Family History, and had started working on my family tree before I joined the church. This has helped greatly because I already have a long list of names to enter on to the Family Search site.

Why I am a Mormon

I come from a non-religious background, so being a member of a church is quite new for me. I came to the church almost 2 years ago, after a visit by two missionaries. They came to see me three times in the space of a week, and I was hooked almost immediately. I was baptised in September 2010, and I love this church with all my heart. My local church has made me feel welcome from the very beginning of my involvement, and I have made many new friends here. This has made it so easy for my transition from non-religious to a Latter Day Saint. I love reading the Book of Mormon, and find great comfort from many of the stories I read there.

How I live my faith

I help out on Sunday mornings with the younger children, from 18 months to 3 years of age, and enjoy this calling very much. I also help out every week in the Family History Centre, so that gives me lots of opportunities to work on my own family tree, as well as helping other members of the church with their trees too. I go out with the Sister Missionaries to help with their teaching in the evenings, or occasionally on a Sunday afternoon.
