Hi I'm Damien Heginbotham

I'm a happy, fill the glass kind of guy! I love my music, my films and my friends. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in sunny England, I am the second youngest out of four brothers and I am still seeking to forge my path in life! I love my music, I can't imagine what it would be like to not have it! I have a great interest in movies and I have a whole heap of love for my friends!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a Church of England setting but developing a faith wasn't something which I took too seriously. I had a deep feeling that there was much more to life, a greater purpose for it, but as to what it was or even how we came to be here, I had no idea. I toyed around with some of the various theories out there, even mixing them together to see what I could be derived, but I still couldn't sate my desire to know. One day, the opportunity to start to learn answers to my deeper questions such as our purpose and existence appeared in the form of two sister missionaries. At first, I only wanted to listen to what they taught for educational purposes and to satisfy my curiosity. As time went on and I learned more, I began to develop a love and appreciation for the church and slowly but surely, my faith grew and a testimony bloomed! I continue to live the gospel and follow the church standards for very simple reasons! I love the principles, the standards and the blessings they have for those who chose to follow them. They promote how important living a healthy lifestyle is for us physically and spiritually, how having organisation and discipline paves the way for a greater work-ethic which in turn, can lead to a more prosperous career. Furthermore, they teach the importance of how having healthy, strong and loving relationships provide lasting happiness and greater family unity. These are just a sample of what they actively teach. It has blessed my life and brought back the spark I once lost, this is why I love being a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As part of my faith, I recognise the importance of scripture study. I endeavour to study these daily for personal development through gaining an understanding of what lessons are taught and how I can apply them to my life. In addition, it allows me to incite interesting discussions or even share what I have learned with my friends. In my home ward, I am accompanied by two great friends in helping to prepare and teach lessons for the young men. As our duty to overhead and look after the fantastic youth, we also prepare and watch over organised, weekly events that gives them the opportunity to socialise and have fun simultaneously. Another form of teaching I have the pleasure to be a part of is what is called 'Hometeaching'. This is when members go to visit other members in order to talk, to socialise, to have fun and share a wonderful gospel message at the same time. Other than the above, I go to church, I try to follow the principles and teaching as much as I can and best of all, I get to have fun!

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Damien Heginbotham
The Word of Wisdom is an inspired commandment of God. As our loving Heavenly Father, the health and welfare of every soul is extremely important and precious to him, the worth of every soul is great in the sight of God! This commandment is one of his many ways of expressing his love as it pertains to our physical well-being. It emphasises the importance of looking after our bodies! To do this, the church provides an understanding of why we should respect our bodies through regular exercise, eating healthy balanced diets and the avoidance of harmful substances.
