Hi I'm Christy Sheppard

I have lived in Northern California my whole life. I'm a stay at home mom and a scout leader. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I keep l pretty busy with my kids and family. With six kids we are involved with their activities and sports and just everything that goes with having a family of any size. However, I do have plenty of things I like to do for myself. Some of my interests are reading a good novel, gardening and running. A few years ago, I had the chance to help at the Elementary School in running the Art Docent Program for a few years. That was really a fun way to be involved with my kids and helping other kids learn to love and appreciate art.

Why I am a Mormon

When in middle school I was invited to go for a week to a camp in the summer. During this time a friend of mine who is a member of the church and I were talking on the porch of the cabin. I had a lot of questions for her. As we talked she shared who Joseph Smith was and about how he didn't know which church to join. She shared how Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and directed him. Looking back, as I heard these things I knew with a feeling inside what she was telling me was true and I knew it really happened. Not at any time did she tell me I needed to believe her but, was answering a question of mine. Through the years I learned more. I was able to learn that Our Father in Heaven has a plan for us and though we may have hard things happen in life, his plan is for us to be happy and as we keep his commandments we will be. Jesus Christ came to the earth because he loves us and suffered for us. The Lord wants us to be together with our families forever. I have read the Bible and love it and have read the Book of Mormon and love it. I know they are scriptures from God to help direct our lives back to him. You and I and everyone on this earth are all brothers and sisters and we have a Father in Heaven loves each one of us, knows each one of us individually.

How I live my faith

For the past 5 years I have been involved with Cub Scouts. I love it! In our group we get to teach the eight and nine year olds. They come to my house with the other leaders and we learn about all kinds of things. Recently, we talked about the history of our city as we were visiting a historic pioneer grave site. This particular grave site was discovered as they were building a senior home development. The developers solution was to designate a small park area and put in an headstone with a picture of the pioneers and their information in addition to their original headstones . We visited the park and talked about who the people were. As part of our Cub Scout program we also do a program called Faith in God. Most of this program the boys work on at home with their families but, we have times where we will do activities that help the boys grow in their relationship with God in our activities as well. One time the boys saved bottles for a month and as a group we recycled the bottles. They had earned a little money and we took them to the dollar store to buy gifts. With these gifts the boys chose a few elderly women they knew to give them to. Since this was at Christmas time, we went as a group to their homes and the boys sang a Christmas carol and after gave their gift. I loved hearing what the boys shared after about how doing a kind deed for someone else made them feel.
