Hi I'm Laura Perez

I grew up in Barranquilla, Colombia. I love my nephew and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just turned 18, I am a native Spanish speaker, so the biggest change in my life has been adapting from living in Barranquilla, Colombia to a country I had never been to before, the United States. I love my family and no matter how far they are, we always find ways to feel close to each other in our hearts. I enjoy going to school and seminary every morning no matter how early it is because it gives me that extra support I will need throughout the day.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a Latter Day Saint and since my mom and my dad were members, I never questioned this being the true gospel. It was always so clear to me because all I knew was the church but when I moved from Colombia to the United States when I was just 12 years old, everything began to change. I was no longer surrounded by members and I did not know anything about this new country. Although my mom's testimony was really strong, I couldn't face challenges with her testimony.. I needed my own. Off course I was young, so it wasn't until a few years later that I realized what was truly important, what never changed no matter how different these two countries were, what offered me peace during the hard times and let me know that everything was going to be okay through the holy ghost. The reason why I'm a Mormon is because I know that this gospel is true. I felt it every time I prayed or read the scriptures and I know I will continue to feel it as I follow the commandments. I know that even when I didn't have my own testimony to hold on too, my heavenly father wanted me to come back because he loved me, He waited for me to open my eyes and realize that he will always be here for me and I will be eternally grateful for this. Understanding that he knew all of us in the pre-mortal world gives me confidence that he wants all of us to go back with him. He has a special purpose for me and I'm more then sure that he has one for each one of you. I leave this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

Since I'm 18 and still in high school, I try my best to be a good example both in young women and in school. I attend mutual, go to seminary every morning, and every activity that may come up in between the week. I know that for any other high school student this may over whelming and it is! But I know that as I meet in each one of this activities with kids who share my same standards and love me for who I am, my heavenly father will bless me for my efforts. Although many still get surprised every time I tell them I'm a Mormon, I try my best to show the kids in my school that Mormons are not near as bad as the media projects them to be!
