Hi I'm Brooke :)

I'm a mom that loves playing playdough more than having clean floors! I see the big picture, I've learned to dance in the rain.

About Me

Growing up I wanted to be EVERYTHING! A veterinarian, a photographer, a children's furniture maker, a guitar player, a wedding planner, a hair stylist, a nurse, a gardener with flowers surrounding my home, a truck driver, an author, a pto/soccer mom, a world traveler, a chef, a motivational speaker, a counselor, a teacher, a marine biologist, a rock climber, a stewardess, a barrel racing rodeo queen, & a famous singer...and while I can't say I have accomplished ALL of those things yet- I can say I have made a pretty good dent in my list...as a mother!!! Whether it's fishing foreign objects out of the toilet as a make shift marine biologist, patching scrapes as the nurse, coaching my kids through a tough situation as their counselor and motivational speaker, snapping photos of their art work or silly faces, or singing my kids to sleep- I AM LIVING my dreams! I'm not waiting for the day when my children are grown and gone so I can start enjoying life- I try to FIND something happy about each day, in the midst of a hundred hard moments. I try to MAKE someone happy, so they have hope that they are gonna make it through whatever struggle they are facing. We can climb our mountains together... they may not look the same, but we all are enduring something hard! (And that's ok!! Our hard times shape us!) I'm the lucky mom of 4 beautiful children, 1 of whom is now an angel, living in Heaven until that promised day when we will all be reunited and I WILL get to HOLD him again! :)

Why I am a Mormon

It's very basic. I am a Mormon because either it is all true, or none of it is! I believe that if there is good verses evil in the world, then there is a God. If there really is a God, then I believe that He is UNCHANGING... that He is the same God now, yesterday and for a thousand tomorrows. I believe the Heavens are opened and that WE CAN PRAY and RECEIVE ANSWERS to prayers, and I believe that God loves us enough to send a living prophet to the earth. Why would He not? It was true in biblical times... I believe that the prophet on the earth today is a man called by GOD (not by man) to lead this church... and preach the GOSPEL. I believe this IS the same "Gospel" that Jesus Christ ,himself, established on the earth nearly 2000 years ago... which is so much bigger than the "Church"...I believe that the "Church" helps us live the "Gospel". It is the truth. It brings peace and joy- which comes from God. Nothing any man can say could bring a confirmation as comforting and peaceful as a message from God. I believe we are eternal beings with eternal feelings, and that when we "learn" something that our soul already knows to be true, that it feels familiar... BECAUSE IT IS!! I've been a Mormon my entire life and have only now, at 32 years old, been able to fully understand WHY I'm a Mormon... it is because I have learned eternal truths that carry me through life... about the purpose of life (and death) and how to have hope in hard times, and an understanding of how I could climb out of bed on literally the worst day of my life... the morning of my son's funeral... KNOWING that the Lord still loves me, and that He has a plan for me, that He doesn't make mistakes, and that I am SEALED to my family... forever! Being a Mormon means hope, peace, joy, eternal life and the priesthood authority to seal families together forever... never before has that been so important to me as it is now, and that will never change!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by putting God and Family First, and letting everything else take a backseat! I live my faith by trying, everyday, to be like Jesus. I try to serve like the Savior served... individually, to people in need (aren't we all in need at some time or another?!?). I pray throughout the day that the Lord will guide me. I try to STAND as a witness that I KNOW that I AM A CHILD OF GOD. I love the quote "Live so that those who don't know HIM, but know you, will want to know HIM, because they know you"... I try to prove to God that He can trust me to listen and obey...and DO what He needs me to DO. I believe that "faith without works is dead", and that it requires more than just saying "I believe in Him", it is LIVING it... it is DOING something about it when a kind thought or gesture enters my mind! Living my faith means recognizing that WE are the Lord's hands, and that very often He is trying to answer someone elses prayers through us...but we have to be listening to hear... so I keep the commandments, that I might be able to hear his whisperings. I live how He has asked me to, so that I can BE the person I'm capable of becoming! And as a motherof small children, I try to lead by example. I keep an eternal perspective in the face of trials. I also believe that from the small things...come the greatest things of all! So I focus my day around what's really important, and trust that I am doing great things in my life... Living the Gospel teaches me FAITH in a plan that I can't see in it's entirety, which allows me to have HOPE on my bad days, and CHARITY towards others on my good days. I don't just have faith... I KNOW it is true, because I read the scriptures, and I can see how God deals with His children, and I FINALLY know how to recognize God's hand in my life... I realize that everything I have is a gift, and so I try to live a grateful life.

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Brooke :)
YES!!! In fact the earth was created so God could have a place FOR FAMILIES... Jesus Christ gave power to His disciples to seal families together forever when He said, “And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). When we are sealed (bound...not literally) together in God's temples- we can know that if we live up to our promises, that not only will we live eternally, but we will live TOGETHER WITH OUR FAMILIES for eternity! This is the best news of the Gospel in my opinion!!! Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Brooke :)
"Because I have been given much, I too must give." Everything I have on this earth is a gift. Everything. Nothing has come because I am witty, or smart, or hard working... it is all from God. He does not ask for very much in return, and when we pay our tithing, the Lord blesses us. We have seen it since we were first married 12 years ago- when we pay our tithing, we are always ok. We don't have a ton of excess, but we have never been compelled to go without and beg. That is so powerful to me. It feels like a selfless way to show gratitude for all of our blessings. What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Brooke :)
Gods law of health... with a promise that by following it, that great physical and spiritual blessings can come from it. Avoiding addicting substances is not just for your physical well being... it keeps you in control of you... which allows you to be in tune to spiritual promptings from the Lord. Show more Show less
