Hi I'm Carly

I write, cook, study, and do my best to enjoy every moment of my life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student in Utah, majoring in Food Science, and minoring in International Development. I plan on traveling around the world, and hope to spend my life serving other people. In my spare time, I love to read, write, and spend as much time outdoors as I can. Biking, hiking, and, when I'm feeling particularly ambitious, running, are some of my favorite outdoor hobbies. My siblings and my parents are my best friends, and I love getting to be an aunt and watch my nieces and nephew grow up! I also enjoy getting to try anything creative; I sketch, paint, and turn just about anything reusable into an art project. Learning is one of my greatest passions, and I love getting to meet people with their own unique stories. I love delicious food, classic movies, and all kinds of music.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were both raised in the LDS church, and taught me and my siblings to love the gospel of Jesus Christ. As I've gotten older, I've gained my own personal and immovable testimony that Jesus Christ is my Savior, and it is only through His plan that true happiness can be attained. By studying the scriptures (the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and other latter-day revelation), I have learned that all things are based upon our faith, and that when we allow God to direct our lives, He blesses us more than we can ever imagine. I know that families are an essential part of God's eternal plan, and I consider the opportunity to be a wife and mother my greatest joy, however far in the future that may be. I know beyond a doubt that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, called to restore truth to the Earth. He translated the Book of Mormon by the power of God, and by reading this book, we can come to know our Savior in a very personal way. Modern prophets remain on the earth to give us counsel from the Lord, and can instruct us through the power of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost can help us know God's will for us, and bring peace and joy to our lives.

How I live my faith

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I attend meetings every Sunday. The most important of these is sacrament meeting, in which we partake of the Lord's sacrament as instituted while He was on the earth (see Matthew 26). Ward members hold callings to which we dedicate our time and talents. At the moment, my calling is to help plan monthly dinners for the college students in our ward. I have also had the opportunity to teach, and this has been one of my favorite things to do as a ward member. I set aside the morning of at least two Saturdays a month to visit the temple, and eagerly look forward the peace that I feel in each of these visits. Perhaps one of the most basic, yet most important ways I practice my faith is through daily scripture study and prayer. I love being able to take my joys and concerns to a loving Father in Heaven, and then recognize His personal answers to me through His scriptures. The message of the gospel means more to me than anything, and one of my greatest desires is to teach those who have not been able to hear it. I want to serve a mission for the church, and get to experience the love Heavenly Father has for His children firsthand.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe that God, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, are all distinct, separate beings. God has a body of flesh and bones, and is perfect in all things. He is the father of our spirits, and knows each of His children personally. In my life, I am beginning to understand the deep love Heavenly Father has for me and the rest of His children, and as I do so, I can see how everything I experience can be for my good. By knowing that my Heavenly Father is a loving father, I can have faith in the fact that all will be well if I follow His counsel. Show more Show less
