Hi I'm Maria Stotts

I grew up in Oregon. I'm a wife and a mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of five children ranging in ages from 7-19 years. I graduated from college with a degree in family sciences and have been putting it to use for 19 years raising my children. I enjoy reading, dancing, exercising and volunteering to help out at my children's schools. I love uplifting and inspiring music and books. I have fun hanging out with my kids and traveling when we can find the time. We lived in Europe for two years and traveled every opportunity and I miss that now. My husband travels quite a bit for work, so I try to take care of things at home. That also means I am busy taking kids to music lessons, sports practices and other activities. Our oldest daughter is off at college now and I realize how little time I get to be with my children before they go off on their own. I love to learn new things and hope to continue learning all of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it brings me great joy. I am a happy person because I know that my Heavenly Father loves me and has a plan for me to achieve unspeakable joy and happiness that lasts forever, and not just on a temporary basis. I am grateful for the Savior, Jesus Christ and that he was willing to suffer and die that I might be forgiven of my sins. He was also resurrected that we could all be resurrected and live eternally with our loved ones. I have felt the influence of the Holy Ghost in my life giving me peace, comfort, direction and affirming truth. That is a wonderful gift. I can't imagine going through life without the Spirit's influence. God knows me and loves me and has given me so much and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My faith is my life. There is no separation. I pray regularly on my own and with my family. I love the scriptures and try to read and study them daily. I attend sabbath worship every week and have tried to instill the importance of the sabbath in my children. I try to be a good example of righteous living everyday to my children, so that they know being faithful is not just a once a week thing, but a way of life. I love and support my husband and know that our relationship is so important to keep our family strong. I have the opportunity to share my talents each week by playing the piano in primary. I love the primary songs. The simple message of gospel is so easily understood through primary music. I also enjoy singing each week in the choir. I feel the influence of the Holy Spirit whenever I sing hymns of the gospel. I am fortunate to have the opportunity to meet daily with the high school students from church to study the scriptures. I teach seminary, along with another teacher, each day and I love learning from and teaching about the scriptures and how to help youth understand them and see how they apply to their lives today. This year we are studying the Old Testament and I love how the words of ancient prophets can still teach us and guide us today.
