Hi I'm Gil

I'm a husand, a father, a business owner, grew up in Las Vegas, live in Upstate New York and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of three children. One brother and one sister. I grew up in Las Vegas Nevada. My father used to be a middle weight boxer and he and my mother who was then over 8 months pregnant with me were on their way back from a match in Northern California. When they arrived in Barstow I decided I wanted out then. So I was born on the highway just outside of Barstow, actually under an underpass as my mother tells me. It was officer Gilbert that delivered me, thus how I got my name. I joined the church when I was 18. Served a mission in the Rochester New York Mission a little over a year after joining. I enjoy spending time with my family, and traveling with them.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is because the men in the church represented to me the man I wanted to become. Growing up my parents divorced shortly after I was born. So I grew up in a very abusive and dysfunctional home. Even though every so often I would have the opportunity to attend services with the Catholic Church I never really developed a relationship with my Father in Heaven, nor His Son Jesus Christ. I realized very quickly that the reason for the joy in the hearts of those LDS men was that they had a relationship with God and Jesus Christ. Today I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because it is the reason for the JOY in my heart. I am like you or anyone else in that I too have many trials I have had to face and am currently facing, but I have a place where peace can be found, where knowledge comes from and where I am constantly and consistently reminded that I am understood, accepted and loved.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to align my actions with my faith. I live my faith by trying to be of service to those around me. I live my faith by showing my children what it means to be a man, husband and father. I live my faith by being a great father, which means I show my children how much I love their mother, and I do love their mother. I may have even told her once or twice by accident. lol I live my faith by being better today than I was yesterday. I live my faith by developing daily my relationship with my Father in Heaven. I live my faith by developing and strengthening my relationship with my Savior, even Jesus Christ.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

I have to admit, one of the things that drew me to the church was that it took care of its own. With that said after all these years, what impresses me more than just taking care of its own is that it reaches out to those in need, Mormon or not, we are encouraged to be of assistance to those in need. Some of my greatest joy has come from helping others. As a member of the church, I try to live in a way that answers the question, "am I my brothers keeper?' YES I AM! Show more Show less
