Hi I'm Lisa Nelson

I grew up in Washington State. I am a convert. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and a mom. I married my best friend just out of highschool and we have three children, each with their own unique challenges. My oldest son is almost 20 and suffers from bi-polar disorder. Raising him has been one of the most difficult things I have ever done and I don't even know how much I got right but it has taught me so much about our Savior Jesus Christ and humbled me in ways I never knew were possible. I also have a 16 year old son and a 12 year old daughter. My youngest has some mild learning disabilities that make the traditional classroom setting dificult so we do school at home and I love it. I love to read and to write. I love yoga and riding my bike. I love being with my family. I love to watch my kids play sports or perform. I love being involved in their activities. I am messy. I love The Constitution and feel very strongly about the freedoms it ensures.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up knowing that there was this emptiness in my soul that needed filling. I remember when I was a little girl- maybe eight or nine and I would wander around in my small town just going to different churches. As a teenager I tried to fill that emptiness with things that only brought me sorrow. When I was introduced to the church it felt like there was this light and that as I learned it slowly got brighter and brighter. It was hard for me to give up the life I was living and after 3 years I finally agreed to read the Book of Mormon. What happened next was nothing short of a miracle, that emptiness grew smaller and as I met with the missionaries I knew the gospel of Jesus Christ was exactly what my soul needed. It has been almost 16 years since I was baptized and sometimes I feel like my soul is so full it might overflow. I feel like Alma (a prophet from the Book of Mormon) who knew the deepest abyss but then found the greatest joy. My relationship with Jesus Christ means everything to me and I am so thankful that through the power of His Atonement I have the ability change and to forgive and to hope and to love and to rejoice! The Gospel of Jesus Christ has made everything in my life better.

How I live my faith

I teach early morning seminary. Every morning at 6 AM I meet with a group of teenagers and we study the scriptures. It is seriously the best way to start the day. I love the scriptures so much- they are like old friends! There is so much hope and knowledge and power in the Word of God. The scriptures have changed my life- I have been uplifted, edified, taught and even called to repentance all while reading the scriptures. I have also found answers to prayers and learned sacred truths about Christ within their pages. I try to serve where I can- right now I am the assistant coach of my daughters volleyball team and I love it. I also try to get involved with organizations that stand up for freedom and for the constitution.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Lisa Nelson
In the book of Proverbs it says "where there is no vision the people perish." I truly believe this. Satan is real- he is clouding up the path that leads us back to our Heavenly Father. I believe that by following the council of a living prophet the pathway becomes clearer, brighter and easier to follow. The temptations of the devil have less power to deceive and you become less likely to be tossed about by every whim of doctrine. It has given me a steady course to follow. A guide who if followed keeps me from falling into pitfalls or wandering off in uncharted territory. Show more Show less
