Hi I'm Dominic Soucy

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Victoria BC. I join the church when I was 15. it was the best choice I ever made.

About Me

I love the outdoors and doing things outdoors. In the winter I like to snow mobile, snow shoe, build snow caves and sleep in the snow. In the summer I like to boat, camp, fish, hike, shoot and work. I really like working with my hands and using power tools. I often need to go to the hospital afterwards but I still enjoy doing it. I seem to be the kind of guy that hurts himself a fair bit. I spent some time framing houses and really enjoyed it. I think I will make this my career after I return home from my mission.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was nine I was placed in Foster care. Between my Mom's health issues and my anger issues, my Mom decided that the best place for me to be was in foster care for a while.I was so blessed to be place with a wonderful LDS family who treated me like I was their own.One day my foster Mom picked me up from school because I got in trouble for fighting again.I told my foster Mother that I needed some new friends because my friends were a really bad influence on me. My foster Mom told me that she knew where I could find some new friends, Youth Conference was that weekend. I really only went to Youth Conference to make fun of all the Mormons.I never thought I would actually enjoy myself.I loved every minute of Youth Conference. At the end of the weekend during testimony meeting the spirit told me that everything I was hearing was true. I was baptized and have been totally active in the church ever since. My life has been blessed in so many ways since I was baptized. Probably the most significant change has been that I am not angry any more. My attitude towards life has totally changed. I was able to baptize my Mom and she is fully active and has found peace as well. My life is great now that I have the peace that comes from living a Christ center life.

How I live my faith

Recently I had the opportunity to go on a winter camp with the teenage boys from our church. This was my first experience being a leader and not one of the kids. It was a different experience being the leader. I had to learn to have fun in a responsible manner. I needed to show a good example. It was amazing. There are four families in our church that I have taken responsibility for. It is my responsibility to stay in close contact with them, help them if necessary, comfort them in times of trouble, strengthen them during times of weakness and lift their spirits. I even bake them cookies once in a while. I love serving in my church community and in my neighborhood community. My favorite is a little old lady I often help out. She skis, climbs on her roof and works as hard as a man. She is 92...my dream is to be like her.
