Hi I'm Barbara

I'm a Mormon. I have been a member since I was 8 years old. My family joined the church in 1954 in Anchorage Alaska.

About Me

I am a mother of 5 children and I have 5 grandchildren. I met my husband in Anchorage while he was serving in the military at Fort Richardson Army Base. We met at a New Years Dance at the church. We have been together for 43 years. My Parents Joined the Church in 1954. They had 4 children and I am the oldest. I was baptised when I was 8 years old. My husband and I were married in 1969 in the temple and we have enjoyed raising our children. I have held many callings or jobs in the church from primary teacher to Multi Sports director and did that calling for about 15 years. I have have a strong testimony and am now serving with my husband on an inner city mission to help those in need of assistance or help.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church because my parents were invited by friends to listen to the missionaries at what were called cottage meetings. I listened to what was being talked about and being young it still made an impression on my young mind. My parents joined after they were given a challenge to be baptised. When my father heard the plan of salvation he wanted to join right away as well as my mother. My self and my sisters and my brother were later baptised when each of us turned 8. My mother said that when all of us where baptised at the age of 8 or older we were the first complete family to join the church in the State of Alaska. I grew in the gospel and learned to love the savior and the Prophet Joseph Smith whose testimony always amazes me. I know this Church is true because. I know that Joseph Smith is a Prophet and that Jesus Christ is the light of the world and the savior. I have read the Book of Mormon and I took the challenge to pray about the truthfullness of the book. I had that special feeling that the Book of Mormon is true and I still get that same feeling when I read the scriptures from it today. I was reading the scriptures from it and got the promptings that I should serve the mission that My husband and I are on now.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by setting an example to others and excepting the callings that I have been given. The mission call I am now serving has encreased my faith and testimony that the Lord will guide me in my life and that he will not give me anything that I can not do. I attend my meetings and I learn of the gospel every day even things I do not alway understand. There is help of the Holy Ghost who has the answers that increase my testimony everyday. I have held many callings and one of the greatest is inner city mission that my husband and I are on. We will be serving for 12 months. This calling is to be of support to our bishop in the ward we are assigned to and to help those in need. I have served the young women by being a sports coach in the ward, Stake sports director and the Muliti region sports director. I organized sports tournaments for a large area here where I live. I became friends with a lot of girls in the area of Sports in the Church. I have served in that position for at least 15 years. The motto in the sports program is "To Bring souls to Christ" which was a benifit to many young women. I served in the Primary as a primary teacher, Visiting teacher. I look forward to serving in other capacities and a mission in other places of the world.
