Hi I'm Spencer

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Southern California to a loving father and mother. I have 2 older brothers and 1 older sister who all married wonderful companions in a Mormon (or LDS) Temple. As a boy, my parents taught me to pray to God and keep His commandments. They encouraged me to be active and to excel in all of my worthy pursuits. I ran cross country, made it to state finals in swimming, and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout, all due to my parent's constant guidance. Later in college, I would win 2nd place in a campus-wide speech contest and be given the Best Picture and Best Cinematography awards for my film "Love Beach." Throughout my life I have had a passion for film, and in addition to winning a few awards for my projects, I also had an opportunity to volunteer with the L.A.P.D. Video Unit. After 1 year of college, I served a mission in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, learning the Mandarin Chinese language and the culture of the Taiwanese people. This has been one of the sweetest experiences of my life. Upon returning home from Taiwan after 2 years, I transferred to BYU and was soon admitted to the Accounting Program. This was a very difficult program and I was thankful for tutors and mentors who have since become lifelong friends. Currently I work as a tax accountant and recently passed all 4 parts of the CPA exam. On my free time I enjoy surfing, working out at the gym, watching good movies, and learning about U.S. History. I love America and am proud to be a citizen!

Why I am a Mormon

As a boy, I came to feel that God was very real and near to me. I innocently prayed to Him for help on numerous occasions, and He always answered in His own way. How grateful I am that I came to develop a relationship with Heavenly Father at such a young age. Later in my life I would meet with a particular crisis that altered my future completely. My faith in Jesus the Christ, and that of my family's, strengthened me to see this crisis through and overcome the associated trials. In reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and praying about these scriptures I have learned that God has continued to call prophets since the beginning of time. Today's prophet, President Thomas S. Monson, has counseled the world to stay out of debt, avoid pornography, refrain from gambling, and avoid the temptation to go along with the world. Those who did not heed his prophetic counsel, found disaster in the economic crisis of 2008. Many lost their homes, their possessions, and their self-respect. Others who ignored the counsel to avoid pornography, found themselves slaves to the lucrative porn business. Families have been torn apart and relationships have been destroyed. By following President Monson, I have maintained a wonderful and fulfilling life. Truth does not change. When I left the United States in 2005 to preach the Gospel of Christ in Taiwan, I had no idea that Pluto would be ruled out as a planet by the time I returned. Fortunately I had already attended 1 year of college and passed my Astronomy course. If someone had told me, that traditional values in the family, such as marriage, would become so controversial in our current times, I would have thought that they were describing a Twilight Zone episode. God has said that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is in fact the same church that Christ established while He was on the earth. This is why I am a Mormon!

How I live my faith

During tax season, my work week starts on Monday and ends on Saturday night. Its not uncommon to work as many as 80 hours in one week of tax season. Thankfully I get to go to church each Sunday of the year and worship God, my Heavenly Father. I love Him with all of my heart and I know He lives! His only begotten son in the flesh, even Jesus the Christ is my Savior and Redeemer. Attending church and partaking of the sacrament, renews my strength for the week and gives me a spiritual boost. In the church, I have been given numerous opportunities to serve in leadership roles, which in turn has helped me in the business world. Currently I serve as a mission leader and get to meet new friends of varying backgrounds each day. I have tried my very best to keep God's commandments, and as a result, I have been spared many of the heartaches and trials that some of my boyhood friends experienced. For example, I don't drink alcohol, smoke, or do drugs. Unfortunately some of my friends have become addicted to such substances, which have impeded them in their individual journeys of life. I also believe that sex is to be reserved for the person with whom I marry. Some have giggled at or mocked me for living this type of life, but I would have it no other way. Too many relationships have been ruined, and too many children have been neglected because couples have not waited for the appropriate time. My family is much stronger, my life is much more meaningful and purpose-driven, and my opportunities are much more promising than they ever could be without Jesus Christ.
