Hi I'm Nicolas

I have a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and work at a Scientific Laboratory. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a happily married father of two. My life revolves around our family, and we love spending time together. Additionally, I love to do things that get us outdoors. Geocaching, camping, hiking, soccer, baseball, etc. I also am a passionate engineer. I love to fix things and make things work. So, I got a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and that is what I do for a living. I have had the opportunity to work on rockets, communication systems, optical systems, GPS devices, various computer model development, and much more. My job keeps me bouncing around from one discipline to another, and I love it! I am a little O.C.D. when it comes to doing technical stuff. I don't care what the problem is, give it to me and I'll get it to work...(Okay, I am a nerd, but for the reference my wife doesn't think so).

Why I am a Mormon

When I left home for collage, I realized that I didn't have as good of a testimony of the Book of Mormon and the prophet Joseph Smith as I wanted to have. I sought guidance from the Lord regarding the Mormon faith. I prayerfully searched the Book of Mormon day after day and discovered things I could do to be more like the Savior. As I did those things I found more joy and peace than I had ever before. By using the Book of Mormon to receive answers from the Lord I realized that it too, like the Bible, is the word of God. Towards the end of my freshman year I read the words of Nephi, a Book of Mormon prophet. Nephi lived in America around the time of the Savior's birth. He prophesied to his people that the Savior would soon be born in Jerusalem and that signs would be given in America regarding his birth. People started to believe in Jesus, but Nephi saw many of them fall away into their old habits. Then I read the words of Mormon, a commentator of the Book of Mormon years later. He said regarding the people: "O how foolish, and how vain, and how evil, and devilish, and how quick to do iniquity, and how slow to do good are the children of men; yea, how quickly to hearken unto the words of the evil one and to set their hearts upon the vain things of the world!" As I was in the college scene, my heart understood this scripture. I was surrounded by wonderful people, whom I had great friendships with, who were making choices against the teachings of Jesus. My heart groaned and I wondered, "How can any of us be saved?" Then I heard a voice in my heart which gave me great peace. The voice spoke that through Christ all mankind could be saved. At that moment I knew that I had to share what I knew regarding Christ with the world. I needed to share with others that I had found Joseph Smith to be a true prophet of God, that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. I know that by giving up our sins and following our Savior we may return and live with Him.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by giving hundreds of hours to the church in voluntary service each year. I currently serve both as a ward executive secretary and a temple worker. As the ward executive secretary I help the bishop administer to the spiritual and temporal needs of our local congregation. As a temple worker I serve those who come to the temple to worship Jesus Christ and help them receive necessary ordinances to obtain exaltation.
