Hi I'm Shani

I'm a swimmer. I'm a musician. I'm a bird owner. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to swim! This last season on the swim team my events were often the 200 IM and the 100 backstroke. I can play various instruments, though a few of them I just know a little on. Many of them I have taught myself (with the help of the Internet and books). I like bluegrass music, riding ATVs, kayaking, singing, have played basketball and am a certified scuba diver. Nature is another thing I love, as well as science and math. I love animals and have some pigeons as pets. Currently I am enrolled in Seminary, my favorite class. It makes me feel happiness and aspire to be a better person. Plus, I do love a good joke and a good laugh. :^D

Why I am a Mormon

I have been raised by two loving parents, both active members of the Church. Going to church has been a part of my life. I was baptized when I was 8, though I still had a lot to learn about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Through the years I have come to understand so much more. I go to church most every Sunday and attend youth activities with others in the area, such as mutual, which is usually every week. Seminary has definitely helped me to grow spiritually. I have grown to love the Atonement and how amazing it really is. In some ways I feel so undeserving of what God offers me, but at the same time, it makes perfect sense for a just, merciful, and loving Heavenly Father to give me the opportunity to some day not only live with Him, but be like Him as well. I have received many answers to prayers, showing how individual the Lord's love really is. The Holy Ghost speaks to me, bearing witness of various truths, such as the Book of Mormon and Christ's resurrection. Families are so amazing and I am happy to be in the one I have been blessed with. I am grateful for the Church in my life. It helps me to become a better person. The Gospel gives me peace and happiness.

How I live my faith

I am a member of the Mia Maid class--14 and 15 year old girls in the Church. We have classes together on Sundays and get together for mutual, sometimes with other youth as well. At mutual we do various activities, such as cook, serve, and have just plain fun activities. I also will attend seminary as one of my school classes. When I walk back into the school, I often feel like I'm shining with gospel light! I try to do what is right, though I am by no means perfect.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Jesus himself said that in order to return, we need to be baptized. However, many people will never hear of the Church while on the earth. So, we do it here on earth in the temples for them. When we do baptisms for the dead, we are baptized in place of the person as an act of service. It is then their choice whether or not to accept it. Show more Show less
