Hi I'm Karina

I am a sister. I am a daughter. I am a confident individual. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a individual with diverse interests. Music is an important part of my life. I was part of my school choir throughout middle and high school. Uplifting music is often what gets me through the day. I love to read fantasy and adventure. I also really enjoy reading stories based off of movies and tv shows that I love. I am a geek. Don't get me started on Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, the Avengers, or Sherlock. My personality and perspective of life is firmly grounded in my religion. Because I know I am a daughter of God, I have confidence that He loves me and helps me every day. I am a daughter, of God and two wonderful parents. I am a sister, of the entire world and by two younger brothers. Right now, I also am a missionary. I am serving in South Carolina away from my family so that I can help others draw closer to Christ and make promises so that others families can be united forever.

Why I am a Mormon

I have a testimony that Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father love me. They show me every day. Their love gives me the confidence to do what I need to do to return to them. I love this gospel because it teaches us to be kind to others and ourselves. I can not help but be optimistic because of this church, and its doctrine teaches me how to stay away from traps and dangers that cause others misery. I also have a testimony that Joseph Smith restored Christ's church on the earth today. A very important part of that was restoring the authority and power of Christ so that worthy men can have and use it. I have received powerful healing blessings in times of distress from my father. I have received council from my Heavenly Father about things I had never told anyone through a man who received revelation through that power of Christ. I have been baptized a member of His church and received the gift of the Holy Ghost which leads and guides me daily offering peace and strength. I could not do without these blessings in my life. I am truly blessed to have Christ's church in my life.

How I live my faith

The most obvious ways I live my faith is not cursing or drinking coffee. I try to be very kind to my precious friends and am often called 'innocent' by them. I avoid talking about dirty subjects and focus on the positive things of life. I go to church and love to interact with the children as well as the supportive adults there. My wish to become better comes a lot from their influence and encouragement. God knows that we need others to be there for us; I am so grateful that church simply points me to the source of peace and happiness, my Heavenly Father. Things that I've been asked to help with voluntarily at church are: preparing dances for the youth and asking other members to preform musical numbers during church services on Sunday. A lot of the church is based on service, and I love to help out. In following the important commandments that God has given to guide me in living my faith, I pray every day morning and night and read the scriptures every day. They give my strength and peace. I am lucky to be a Mormon.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A testimony is the specific beliefs of a person. It is the simple words that summarize the spiritual experiences of their life. When someone says that they believe in the love of God and Jesus Christ or that Joseph Smith is His prophet on the earth today, they are sharing their testimony. Show more Show less

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is similar to the Bible in that it is a record kept by the prophets of the Lord. The Book of Mormon was written by inhabitants of the Americas who left Jerusalem in 600 BC around the time of the prophet Jeremiah in the Bible. Jerusalem was about to be taken captive because of the people's iniquities and so the Lord led a righteous people to the America's were they could live in peace. Joseph Smith was led to the Book of Mormon by an angel who was the last keeper of the record of the Book of Mormon. He showed Joseph Smith where it was buried so he could translate it. The record was written upon metal so that the writings would be preserved over a long period of time. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. It is another record, like the Bible, of a people who are blessed when they follow God's commands and are punished when they do not. The Book of Mormon repeatedly mentions Christ and His coming and tells of His teachings in the Americas after His Resurrection. The Book of Mormon contains a promise that those who will read it and sincerely pray to ask God if it is true will receive, by the Holy Ghost, an answer. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

God is our Heavenly Father, and as such, He wanted us, His children, to have the opportunity to learn and grow in such ways that could only happen on this earth. Our full use of our agency, the ability to choose, was not possible until we came here. God loved us enough to send us where we have challenges and human faults, as well as joy and love, so we could learn to turn to Him for help. We could not know to value the good unless we have experienced the bad. He also loved us enough to give us a pathway back home. Together with our families, we all can return to live with Him again. Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon was written by a group of prophets who lived in Ancient America. They looked forward to the coming of Jesus Christ and believed in His Atonement. Lehi left Jerusalem around 600 BC according to God's commands with his family and traveled to the Americas. His son, Nephi, recorded his family's story. Later generations also recorded the history, especially the spiritual history, of this people. Included in the record is Christ's visit to this people after His Resurrection. Mormon was one of the last prophets of the people and he abridged all the writings of the people to create the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon contains a promise that if you will read it and pray to know if it is true, you will receive an answer. Show more Show less
