Hi I'm Tommy

I've lived all over the world and currently live in San Diego. I love life, work, my family, the outdoors, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up up in Utah, spent my high school years in Spain, went to the Air Force Academy, served a mission in Hungary, finished school including my Master's at BYU, lived in NorCal for a bit, and I've lived in various parts of SoCal and currently reside in San Diego with my wonderful wife Michaela. I married Michaela on Nov 3, 2012--what a great day! She's from Logandale (outside Las Vegas) NV, and we met while living in San Diego. We have a lot of fun together. I work in Energy Management--from lighting, to HVAC, to solar--and love my work. I'm somewhat of an entrepreneur and enjoy growing and helping businesses. I really enjoy the outdoors, whether it be skiing (not so fitting for San Diego), surfing, mountain biking, rock climbing, or taking a simple scenic drive. I also enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I started out life as something of a wild child :) I wasn't particularly bad, but I wasn't always doing what is right. I heard from my parents and Church that as a person follows Christ, they will know the truth of His doctrine and will receive joy and happiness in life. As I changed my life to better follow the teachings of Christ, little by little, I found myself becoming more happy, more sure of His teachings, more inclined to act like Christ, and more enlightened by an eternal perspective. As I continued to grow older and noticed this positive change, I increasingly felt an assurance of God's reality. Nevertheless, I had many specific questions: How do I know that God is real and that Christ is my Savior and Redeemer? How do I know that the Bible an the Book of Mormon are truly God's word? How do I know that Joseph Smith is a Prophet God, and that he truly restored God's Church? As I reflected on my questions, I was reminded of the admonition of Christ, "Ask, and it shall be given you." I began taking my questions to the Lord in prayer and fasting. God did answer my prayers through the Holy Ghost, whom Christ said, "the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things" ... "even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth forth from the Father, he shall testify of me" and "by this power ye shall know the truth of all things." By the gentle, warm, peaceful, quiet, put penetrating power of the Holy Ghost, and many moving experiences, I learned then and I know now that God is real, that Jesus is His Son and my Savior, that the Atonement has the power to save, strengthen, and heal, and I know that God has not left us in darkness but has provided a Prophet--as He has from the beginning--that we may hear the Living Christ and return to live with Him together with our families. This journey, knowledge, and relationship with God has been my greatest blessing in life. I love my Father and Savior. This is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Though imperfectly, I seek to live my faith by acting as Christ did: --Talking and communing with God through prayer and fasting --Following the directions received through scripture, prophets and personal revelation--living the Gospel --Acting in love towards my fellowman and serving my fellowman --Working honestly and diligently --Treating my body as a temple and vessel of the Spirit, that the Holy Ghost may be with me --Spending time with and loving my family --Sharing the Gospel with others I'm not always that great at the above, but that's one reason we have the Atonement :)
