Hi I'm Glessie

I'm a teacher. I'm a lover of all things Spanish. I'm a wannabe world traveler and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I teach high school Spanish and I love being with and working with my students. I love sports--running, volleyball, softball, basketball and watching baseball. Go Cards! I love to spend time with people--chatting, cooking, playing games, anything. I'm constantly on the go and love it! I served as a missionary in the Texas McAllen Mission and draw on things I learn there every day. I love love LOVE to travel...I've been to Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic and impossibly long list of places I want to visit. I'm a reader...if I can't go every where I want to, then at very least I can do is read about them.

Why I am a Mormon

I was first introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was eight years-old when my Dad and I were watching TV one weekend, we saw a commercial advertising the Book of Mormon. That began the process of us meeting with the LDS missionaries. I knew as they taught the Plan of Salvation (where we came from, why we are here and where we are going) that what they were saying was true. My dad was baptized a few weeks later. However, due to some family issues, I was not baptized until 9 years later when I was 18. I knew that what was being taught was true based on the feelings that I felt inside--warmth, peace, joy. I read the Book of Mormon and took the challenge in Moroni 10:3-5 and prayed to know if it was true. I had an undeniable feeling that it was true and that feeling has only been magnified as I have continued reading the Book of Mormon and applying its teachings to my life. I also love to read the Bible and have felt myself grow closer to the Savior as I learn more about His life and teachings, I know the Lord loves us and for that reason has provided some of the basic things that he provided people in the past--living prophets, revelation for our time, guidance and help for our challenges today. As I continue learning and especially applying these teachings to my life, my conviction that this is Christ's church only grows deeper and my desire to follow Jesus Christ is strengthened.

How I live my faith

Living my faith touches every part of my life. I seek guidance, direction and comfort to everyday challenges though prayer and scripture study. I feel uplifted as I fellowship with other members of my congregation through many church activities throughout the week. As I work as a teacher, I have a special opportunity to work with Heavenly Father's children and so often, I pray to know how to help my students or who needs special care. I seek to teach and treat my students as Jesus Christ taught. I strive to always be improving as a person, as a teacher, as a Christian and I do so by seeking to apply gospel principles in my life; for example, being more compassionate and forgiving, developing greater faith and being more obedient to the commandments. I also serve as the president of the women's group at church (called Relief Society) which involves looking out for the women in my congregation, helping them develop friendships and feel welcome and overseeing meetings that help us grow closer to the Lord. As I go through life and face challenges, I look for the things that I'm learning and ways that I can become more like my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
