Hi I'm Mel

I'm a College student. I'm a photographer. I'm a Friend. And yes, I am a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Mel and I love to party and hang out with friends. I'm currently attending school to eventually become an Elementary School teacher, I hope to someday teach kids somewhere in the 2nd-4th grade range. I love to take photos, and am slowly starting my own studio. I also enjoy running, four-wheeling, camping, and hiking. In short I love being outdoors. I have a large family, and couldn't imagine my life without them in it FOREVER. They are everything to me.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a convert to the church. I've grown up my whole life as a Member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but it hasn't been until just recently that I have become fully converted. I have always "known" that the church is true but it wasn't until recently that I REALLY had a testimony of it and KNEW that the principles of the gospel are true. A few months ago my bishop issued me a challenge, to read the Book of Mormon at least twenty minutes and pray everyday. At first I didn't take his challenge seriously, I thought to myself "reading from a book supposedly written centuries ago and talking to some God that probably doesn't even exist (and if he does then he doesn't know me), isn't going to help me any, it's just a waste of time." A few weeks later I felt SAD, I had never in my life felt so sad for no apparent reason, and I didn't know what to do. So, I picked up my Book of Mormon and I began reading; I couldn't put it down. It felt like for once in my life someone understood exactly how I felt. The feeling of peace and joy that enveloped me is indescribable. The best way to describe it is like a giant hug. I've finished the BOM and I can testify with a sureness that it is true, no other book that I have read has ever made me feel so loved and cared about. I know that it was written centuries ago, and that it is just as true today as it was then. I know that there is a God, I have talked to Him, I have come to know Him. He is aware of me, just as He is aware of you, He loves us and always wants to give us a big hug via the Holy Ghost. By learning to turn to him and talk to him, my life has changed so completely. I know that His son Jesus Christ died for us and atoned for our sins. No matter what you have done, no matter how bad you think the sin is, He will forgive you if you ask. I'm not perfect, but I've come to learn from each mistake and partake of the atoning sacrifice that the Savior offers us. The church is true, I testify of this.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday by being an example to those around me. My best friend saw this in me in high school, and asked about my faith, it was through my example that she saw that members of the church are good, honest, heartfelt people, and it is because of the example that my friends and I set that she eventually sought out the missionaries and became converted to the church. I plan to serve a mission in the next few years because I want to share my love for the gospel and the joy I have found in it, with those who do not yet have it in their lives. It has changed my life and who I am and want to become. Like I said before I'm a college student and I love to party. However, I don't party like the stereotypical college student. I don't cuss, drink, watch R rated movies, have promiscuous sex, do drugs or anything else of that nature. Instead we watch disney movies, go to dances, participate in recreational activities, sing, play games and do other random things. I live like I believe, and I'm not afraid to show it.
