Hi I'm Doug

I was born in East LA, but grew up in New York. I am a cyberspace entomologist. (Computer Security.) I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of 7 children. I have 18 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. I have lived in 17 states and three other countries. I have two degrees in physics and additional degrees in computer science and meteorology. I am an alumni of Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, the University of New Mexico and Weber State University. I am a Vietnam Era veteran and I retired from the US Air Force after 20 years. In the Air Force, I served as a Meteorologist, a Computer Officer, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer and a Radar Evaluations Officer. I was stationed at 15 Air Force bases during my 20 years with 4 tours overseas in Southeast Asia and Germany. In addition to English, I speak passable German.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church during my senior year of college. I come from a multidenomiational background. My father was Russian Orthodox, my mother was Irish Protestant and we went to a Methodist Church. I wanted to find a religion that I could relate to. I approached a fellow student that was a Mormon and asked him if I could attend his church. There I met the Missionaries. Everything they told me seemed to fit everything that I wanted in a church. Joining the church was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Every time that I moved, there was always a new ward waiting for me. Everything was the same as my old ward, just the faces changed. It was like having a new wet of friends at each new location. The Mormon group in Southeast Asia was a great blessing. a wonderful group of young men that help me keep the faith and gave me a refuge from the isolation from my family and ravages of war. I know that this is the true church. I know that Jesus is real and is my Savior. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that we are led by a prophet today. The Gospel has helped me more times than I can count. For everything that I am today, I give credit to the Lord for getting me here.

How I live my faith

Growing up, I was always a part of Scouting. My father enrolled both my brother and me in the Boy Scouts of America when we were eight. He supported us as we were growing up and both my brother and I were Eagle scouts. The Mormon Church has helped me to give back to scouting for the past 40 years. I have served in almost every position from the council on down and I have three sons who are Eagle scouts and now serving as scout leaders. The Church has a great affiliation with the Boy Scouts and It has giving me the opportunity to serve both my family and my community. Living by the precepts of the Scout Oath and Scout Law has helped me to live my faith by serving others.
