Hi I'm Melissa

I'm an undergraduate, studying Biology and English. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to read and write and swim and playing cello. I enjoy being outdoors, especially when the sun is shining. I am attending college at Brigham Young University -Idaho. I previously changed my major from English to Biology, but I kept English as my minor. I love studying science and I feel that it is a beautiful complement to the gospel, because they are both a search for truth and as you draw closer to the truth there are no contradictions between them.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a LDS family. So in some ways it is pretty natural for me to just a be a Mormon. But there was a time in my life when I struggled with the faith. Not so much my belief in God, simply whether or not this was the correct church, but after much prayer and study, I feel this truly is the restored Gospel on the earth, and I really don't know where I would be without it in my life. This Gospel means more to me than I can put into words, especially the knowledge it gives me that I have a God that knows and loves me personally. I cannot deny what I have felt in this Church.

How I live my faith

I attend a church, which is a large part of how I live my faith, because it automatically shows what I stand for, just going to a university that is based in the beliefs in my church. For me personally I uphold the Sabbath day in ways that maybe aren't quite traditional but help me feel closer to God, I try to stay in my church clothes all day, just as an extra reminder, and I listen to church music, and don't play video games or even do homework on Sundays. In my everyday life, I try to have a friendly and kind disposition and I try to be an example of my beliefs to those around me. I do my best to act as I feel the Savior would act.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Melissa
For me I find proof of God in my experiences. I can feel His prensence when I pray, and I know that I have experienced His love for me, because I also know that he has answered my prayers. Others' testimonies of God always help strengthen my own. There is nothing more wonderful to me than being able to hear of other people's love and knowledge of God and let it strengthen my own. I also know of God, just from the world I see around me. I see so many wonderful and unique people that couldn't possibly have been created by chance, I see the flowers, and the trees, all the animals that populate the earth and I can't help but think there must have been some hand that created them. Even just looking up at a clear blue sky, or gazing at the majesty of clouds, gives me inspiring thoughts of God. I like to think of God as like the wind. He's something that I know is out there, that I can feel and know of, but for now at least I can't see him, just like we can feel the wind even if we can't see it. Show more Show less
