Hi I'm Mayra

I live in Arizona. I am a student and majoring in Elementary Education. I LOVE sports and the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a sophomore in college and majoring in Elementary Education. Education has become a passion of mine, and I hope to share this passion and love for learning to the children I teach. When I am not busy with school I enjoy watching movies, being active and spending time with the people I love. I enjoy playing sports, especially soccer. I also like outdoor activities like hiking, camping and star gazing.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it has changed the life of my family. About fifteen years ago, in California, two missionaries knocked on our door and introduced my family to the church. This was the start of a new life for our family. At that time my dad was a heavy drinker and we did not attend any other church. My mom quickly fell in love with this church's teachings and the focus it had on family. My dad however told the missionaries he was not interested. One of the missionaries, who was only in the area for a month, and his partner were very persistent and knew that we were ready to hear His message. The missionaries continued to visit us and taught our family, even my dad. In one month my mom was baptized, and the missionaries were transferred to a new area. About five pairs of missionaries after that continued to teach my dad, but my dad would not get baptized. A year later two very special sister missionaries visited us and taught my dad once again. This time my dad knew for a certainty that these words were true, that he could change his bad habits, and he did. Both my dad and my older brother were baptized. Soon after I was baptized as well, and was able to witness the joy this church can bring to families. It was not easy to be the only members in our big family though. Many of our extended family members did not agree with our decision to join the church, but after some years they were able to accept our decision. This church changed out lives for the better and our testimonies have and continue to grow since then. I am grateful for my Heavenly Father's plan, and for having the opportunity to be a member of this great church. I know that God listens to our prayers, that His teaching are true, and that one day we will have the opportunity to live with Him and our families forever. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints simply provides an endless amount of happiness for you and your family, and that is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to follow the gospel's teachings as best as I can. I am not perfect, but I listen to my church leaders and try to follow their teachings and guidance. The people I associate with know that I am different because I don't drink, smoke, use certain language or participate in activities that will lead me away from my beliefs and values. I am not ashamed in the way I live my life and I let others know why I do not do certain things. Many have learned to respect who I am and my religion. I also spend a lot of my time in church activities as well. The church has many programs and activities for all ages. There are many activities where you can meet new people, have fun, provide service for others, volunteer, participate in your community, share your talents, and learn new things. Something that I really like is that the church keeps you busy in things that will influence your life in a positive way. It is not only a place where you attend Sundays, but also throughout the week to continue learning, serve, or just have fun!
