Hi I'm Debra

I'm a Mormon. I am a mother, teacher and professional storyteller.

About Me

I am an educator. My specialty is kindergarten. I serve as president of my state kindergarten association. I have taught kindergarten for 18 of my 24 years as an educator. I have been performing as a professional storyteller for 30 years. I love to provide wholesome entertainment for families. I am a wife. My husband is Jewish. My daughter lives and works in China and my married son lives in Scotland. I play the guitar, write music, paint and do calligraphy on wedding invitations.

Why I am a Mormon

Twenty eight years ago, the sister missionaries knocked on my door. As a young mother of two children, I realized a need to return to church, but I had not found the right church. I had been baptized a member of the Episcopal church as an infant and followed that faith. However as I got older, I began to question the practices of that church. I attended many churches, but felt empty. When the sister missionaries asked me to read the Book of Mormon, I felt like I was seeing Christ for the first time and hearing the gospel with an open heart. The Holy Spirit witnessed to me of the truth of the Book of Mormon. As I knelt in prayer with the missionaries, the spirit consumed my body with a burning of the truth and for the first time in my life I had a testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I was baptized with full immersion. I always celebrate that day! I felt like the missing pieces of my faith puzzle were found. My baptism was the first step into becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every minute of the day. By no means am I perfect person, but I feel the hand of the Lord in all that I do. He is guiding me with the power of the Holy Spirit to make daily decisions. He blesses me with trials so I can gain a testimony. Prayer is a vital part of my waking hours. I have served as a teacher of adults, young children, and teenagers. I even lead music, a skill I was blessed to be able to learn. I love being a visiting teacher. It is the one connection that I did not see in my other church. Since I do not have a Priesthood holder in my home, I rely on my Home Teachers to bless my family with prayer and a monthly lesson from the prophet. There is a beautiful song, " I'm trying to be like Jesus" that reminds me how I need to live my day. By participating in all of the ward activities and attending the church on Sunday, I am blessed to have the"whole amour of God". The Temple is a treasure in my life and helps me to connect with my eternal family.
