Hi I'm Amanda Groneman

I'm a freshman at the University of Utah. Loving and making the most of every moment I have in college. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am just about to finish up my freshman year of college. I love the opportunities college has given me to meet new people and have new experiences. I want to become a Physicians Assistant one day. I enjoy volunteering at the hospital each week. In high school I used to dance a lot and I miss it a lot. I especially enjoyed ballet, contemporary, and jazz. I also enjoy traveling a lot. I am now preparing to serve a mission, and I have been called to serve in the El Salvador Santa Ana/Belize mission and I couldn't be more excited.

Why I am a Mormon

My whole life growing up I've been raised in the church, and I couldn't be more thankful to my parents, they have been incredible examples to me. They have raised me to come to know for myself that this gospel is true. Nothing brings me greater happiness than living the gospel and coming closer to Christ and my Heavenly Father. Knowing that Christ atoned for my sins and is my savior brings me comfort in life, it helps me to realize that I always have someone I can turn to. I have a strong testimony of the Book of Mormon and nothing helps me stay on the right path better than studying from it daily. Because of the Book of Mormon I have gained a testimony of Joseph Smith that he was a true prophet of God and he restored this church. Along with him, I am grateful for our prophet Thomas S. Monson today, and that he gives us counsel to help us in these times. I can't imagine my life without this gospel. It is what keeps me going everyday. It gives me purpose in life, it gives me something to live for.

How I live my faith

Growing up I was able to have a calling as a leader among the youth. I've been able to help plan activities for the youth and I've learned to be an example. Helping lift up others and bring them closer to Christ not only makes others happy, but it makes myself happy. I have also had the opportunity to teach a class of young children in church and I absolutely love seeing the faith that the young children have. Right now I serve as a secretary to some of the other leaders at church. But most importantly, for me, living the gospel is just about the little things. It doesn't take much time to read my scriptures each day, or say my prayers, but these are the most important things to do. These little things are what invite the spirit into my life each day and help me to continue to grow closer to my savior.

What is being a Mormon like?

Amanda Groneman
Some people not of our church view being a member as a burden or a hard thing to do. Some people may see our church as something that gives us a bunch of rules we have to follow and restricts us from doing a bunch of things. Or maybe people see it as something that takes up too much time. But to me, being a Mormon is the exact opposite of these things. Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints is the thing that brings me the most happiness in my life. And that is what being a Mormon is all about. About finding happiness and coming closer to God. Being a Mormon gives me a sense of clarity and peace. I find myself each day just simply smiling because I can see the bigger picture of this life. When I have hard days, I rely on the church and the principles of the gospel to show me what truly matters. With the church, I know that I am never lost. And I know that I have a purpose here on earth. The "rules" people may think we have are really not hard to follow. They make me happy and lead me to be successful in life. Living my life in a way that I know God is happy with me allows me to focus my life on the important things. Giving my time to participate in going to church each Sunday, or read my scriptures each night, helps me to grow closer to God, and I learn that he is there just waiting for me to reach out to him so that he can help me. I learn of his plan for me and how he wants me to be happy. Show more Show less
