Hi I'm Amanda

I study science (and I love it). I've been called to the Canada Montreal mission. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

My name is Amanda, and I am a Senior studying Physical Science Teaching at BYU. I love all things science-- I find the universe absolutely fascinating. I spend a lot of time trying to learn new things about Chemistry, Geology, and Astronomy. I am hoping to one day pursue a Masters and PhD in Geochemistry so I can become a professor. I have a passion for teaching and feel that it's one of the things I was put on this earth to do. I also enjoy drawing, painting, and dancing. I have a love for nature and have spent a lot of time wandering the mountains by my home. I was recently called to serve in the Canada Montreal mission, and even though I don't speak French (I actually speak Spanish...), I am excited to meet and serve the people of Quebec!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that God has a plan for everyone, including me. I believe that Joseph Smith was a modern prophet and that he restored the true gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe in eternal families and eternal life after death. I chose to believe in the gospel because the teachings are beautiful and speak to my soul. You don't have to give up science to believe in God when you are a Mormon. Science and religion go hand in hand (science answers the physical "how" questions, while religion answers the more spiritual "why" questions). This church's teachings perfectly fit with my personal understanding of the universe, and I love that. I also have a very strong testimony of God's love for His children. I know that He is aware of me and that He loves me. He gives me blessings, trials, and opportunities to grow and repent. And in the end, He will allow me to continue to grow and be blessed after I die. My beliefs mean everything to me, they have shaped my life and made me into a better person. I love this gospel!

How I live my faith

I live in a student ward near BYU campus, and my calling is family history consultant. I have spent a couple of years familiarizing myself with how Family Search and Ancestry work, and I believe my call was inspired because of my experience with the programs and websites used. I love helping others build their trees and find family names! The LDS Church places great importance on family history because we believe families are forever.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Amanda
Mormons absolutely believe in the equality of men and women! I have all the opportunities in this church that a man would have. I also have access to all the blessings. You meet Mormon women with all sorts of personalities, styles, and opinions. The one thing that all Mormon women have in common in our belief in the LDS faith. Besides that, Mormon women can be whoever they want. For example... I am a scientist, I've had blue hair, and I love being an absolute nerd. What is being a Mormon like?

Amanda
We have been placed on this earth to experience joy! Being a Mormon brings me so much joy because of what I believe. We believe in so many things that make me optimistic for my own future. My life is better because of my beliefs. I would be doing the same things if I wasn't a Mormon, but because I have the church in my life I am able to feel an added amount of joy and purpose.
