Hi I'm Jenny

I grew up in Virginia. I'm a mom, a wife, and a writer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have two children, and I don't think there's been a time in my life that I've been busier than I am now. We stay busy with constant appointments, shuttling to preschool, playdates, daily activities, and life in general. I am a freelance writer and editor "on the side." I am grateful for the creative outlet that this gives me. I am also a runner and just started a kickboxing class. I'm still sore! I find great joy in spending time with my family and in serving in the church and participating in its activities.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because the Spirit has witnessed to me that this church is true, that it is Jesus Christ's true church restored to the earth again. Once in college an LDS bishop challenged me to start reading the Book of Mormon. This was the first time in my life I really read it to understand it. As I started reading, something incredible happened. I was more aware of my actions. I had more of a conscience. My desire to do good and to live the Lord's commandments increased tenfold. It made me want to be a better person -- to live as Christ lived. How could I deny that this book was of God if it brought me closer to Him? I felt more joy and peace than I ever had in my life. I continue to experience these positive feelings as I read the scriptures. I also feel peace and joy when I attend church, listen to the leaders of the church speak, and serve others. I also recognize blessings that come to me through active participation in the church and as I keep the Lord's commandments. This is how I know the church is true. (See Galatians 5:22.) My parents were also great examples! I served a full-time proselyting mission for the church. I witnessed great miracles as a servant of the Lord and can never deny that this is Christ's true church here upon the earth. It contains all of the blessings and covenants necessary in order to return home to our Father in Heaven. The church is perfect (people are not, of course.) But we're all in this together, striving to be better, to be more like our Savior, and to ultimately return to His and our Father in Heaven's presence again where we can be with our families eternally. What a beautiful blessing to those who are worthy to obtain it. I know the church is true, and I love it with all my heart. I love that is provides answers, solutions, and guidance for life's challenges and questions. I also love the opportunities for growth and learning that it provides people of ALL ages -- from children to adults. It is a beautiful work!

How I live my faith

I strive to pray daily -- morning and night. I've found that our family can find great strength and joy in the little, daily things: family prayer, family scripture study, and praying before meals. We also hold a weekly Monday night Family Home Evening, where we gather as a family to sing, have a short lesson, and visit as a family. It's helpful to have a designated evening set aside to spend together. It helps keep the family strong and helps our children feel a sense of belonging. It gives them confidence to know they are loved and cared for. I also attend youth activities every Tuesday night. I am a counselor in the Young Women organization. The girls I work with are wonderful! We also attend church every Sunday as a family and attend the temple as often as circumstances allow. We try to engage in family activities often -- whether it's exercising or eating family dinners together most nights of the week.
