Hi I'm Andy

I love to sing and dance. I studied cultural anthropology. I have three rambunctious boys. I'm an "occ doc." I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a preventive medicine physician for businesses ("occ doc," or occupational doctor). That means I help businesses take care of their medical needs and also help them prevent illnesses and injury for their employees. I've worked as a waiter, groundskeeper, pizza delivery guy (I still love good pizza), custodian, grocery store clerk, and a house framer. Now, I mostly love taking care of my family of 3 boys and a lovely wife. The kids like soccer. My wife and I love to dance and sing. I'm a "cerebral" kind of guy, and I love reading and thinking. I teach public health at a local university. I studied local healers and healing rites in small villages in Ghana during college. Getting to know people from around the world is kind of a passion of mine. I speak some of 5 languages, and I don't want to stop there!

Why I am a Mormon

To be honest, I was born in a Mormon family. Because of that, some would think that's why I'm Mormon, but it's not. That was my introduction to being a Mormon, but now I'm a Mormon because the teachings of the Church make me happy, and I've come to know they'll continue to make me and my family happy for this life and beyond. I believe God is our Father, loves us, and has a plan for us in this life and beyond as families. His son, Jesus Christ, is the central and most important figure in that plan. I believe God has provided a way for each of His children to find that out individually so we're not left to simply believe what others tell us. I've studied other religions and lived a bit around the world, and every time I look around and find the good in other cultures and teachings, I find they come back to these basic truths, just expressed in different ways.

How I live my faith

I try to help those around me to be comforted and have peace. There are so many struggles in the world, but there is so much to be happy about and grateful for, too. I try to keep a smile on my face and show it to those around me. I try to give a listening ear and warm face at work and to those around me. I enjoy participating in my church community. I enjoy teaching classes when asked, and I enjoy sharing music with others through singing or piano playing. I think music is such an important way to comfort and teach. Music can be a powerful tool in helping others feel God's love for them when used with sincere intent. I love trying to do just that.
