Hi I'm Russ

I am a college student, an entrepreneur and an avid outdoorsman. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I study Economics at the University of Louisville. I love studying business and I want to run my own business someday. My freshman year of college I started a successful Ebay business and have since loved the idea of 'working for myself.' I also work part-time as a waiter at a country club to work through college. I consider myself an adventurous person. I ride a motorcycle. I have participated in several 'extreme' sports including: white water rafting, rappelling, mountain biking, snowboarding, and skydiving. I earned my Eagle Scout award in Boy Scouts as a youth. I go on several backpacking trips a year, and spend a lot of time in the outdoors. I love enjoying nature and exploring the beautiful world God has created for us. A typical day for me involves school, study, exercise, piano practice, work, and writing in my journal. I like to stay busy. Politics, cars, guns, and reading books are some other interests & hobbies of mine. I spend time with friends or family when I have nights off from work. I have been raised by a great family. My mother is from Ecuador, and I have been taught Spanish from my youth. My father is an engineer and knows the answer to ANY question I have. My two younger brothers are my best friends. Though not a perfect family, I am so grateful to have been raised in a faith-centered home! I plan to serve as a full-time missionary in 2013.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been fortunate to grow up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I became serious about my religion as a teenager, when I realized I had to know for myself if this Church was true. Through hours of prayer and scripture study, I have learned for myself that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church of God and has the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have had many sacred, personal experiences through prayer. I know that we are God's children. I am a son of my Heavenly Father; and as a loving Heavenly Father, he is always listening to my prayers and he always answers. When we seek guidance or assistance in our lives, God is aware, and often he is just waiting for us to ask His help. The world is hard place to live. Many people are struggling physically, financially, emotionally, and spiritually on a daily basis. I have seen difficulties arise in my life that I could not handle alone. As I have faithfully called on His name, I have been sustained through my trials. I can feel my Savior's love as I appeal for His help. My love and need for the Savior is why I am a Mormon. This religion brings me closer to Him, and I know I am following His teachings. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's true church.

How I live my faith

Although far from perfect, I try my best to live high standards, and my friends have always noticed. I have never consumed alcohol, tobacco, coffee, or tea. I have been known to walk out of a movie with friends when it becomes inappropriate. I do not work on Sundays, nor shop or 'eat out' on the Sabbath. I have noticed that people often change how they speak around me when they realize I do not use foul language. I am a Sunday School teacher in my congregation. I teach "Gospel Principles", which is a course designed for new members and visitors interested in the Church. A friend and I work together as partners as part of a "home teaching program"- we have the opportunity to regularly visit, teach, and serve other members of the congregation. In 2013, I plan to devote my life in service to God as a full-time missionary. I will leave home, work, school, family, and friends behind to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I get to do it for TWO whole years! I love to teach and serve, and I cannot wait to do this as a missionary. And hopefully, I will be able to serve somewhere where I can put my Spanish to use!
