Hi I'm Michael Van Quakebeke

I am an Elder, I'm preparing to serve a mission, I'm a gamer, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy video games, computers, and working with Electronics. I took electrical engineering courses in school, and I would like to continue exploring that field in the future. I also enjoy hiking in the summer, and cloudy days. I don't really like sunny days. I graduated from NUAMES, or the Northern Utah Academy for Math, Engineering, and Science. I have a year of college completed at Weber State University, and I would like to major in Theology when I return from my mission, but that doesn't feed a family, so I'll probably end up majoring in Electrical Engineering when I return from my mission. I worked in haunted houses for 4 years, and still dearly love them. I have also worked as a Pizza deliveryman, a janitor, and as a technical router for Microsoft. I'm currently serving as a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm serving in the California Irvine Mssion, which covers everything from San Clemente up to the Santa Anna river, and from the coast to Rancho Santa Margurita. It's super fun, and I really love it.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church, however I do not have those parents that make me go within an inch of my life. I go to church and believe in the gospel because I know that it is true. I learned it was true on July 7th, 2010, and I've been very active ever since. I was becoming fairly inactive in the church and became involved in sinful behavior. On this day I happened to be surrounded by some very spiritual people, and I realized that there are no coincidences in life. I felt the spirit testify to me that what these people around me were saying was true, and that has held me up ever since. I know that this church is true, I know that Joseph Smith, Jr., was a prophet of God, and I know that the Book of Mormon contains only truth. I know that President Thomas S. Monson is also prophet of God, and that he will never lead us astray. I hope that I can use these experiences to help others understand the gospel and realize it's truth and the blessings therein.

How I live my faith

Right now, I'm serving as a missionary for the LDS church, and that is one of the best way to live your faith. We dedicate 2 years of our lives to th church, which we fund with our own money, and during which time we have limited, written contact with family and friends, we obey strict personal standards, and we do not take vacations or breaks. We go about inviting others to come unto Christ through receiving the restored gospel through faith in Christ and His atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and Enduring to the End. It is a fantastic calling, and there is nothing greater that I could want to be doing with my life right now.

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Michael Van Quakebeke
Pornography is an industry, and like any industry, it's largely controlled by supply and demand. If the demand for pornography is removed, the supply will be as well. We need to work together as communities and good citizens to end this plague by abstaining from it ourselves and encouraging others to do likewise. Show more Show less

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Michael Van Quakebeke
I have extensively studied faith, especially in the context of Proverbs 3:5-6. To understand faith, however, you must understand what it is. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). Let's take Christ's sacrifice, for example. We didn't see Him die for us, but we know He did-- and how do we know this? Faith. We have faith that He died for us. True faith will always lead to action as well, because faith without works is dead (James 2:17). Thus, if you have faith, you will act on it. So how does this help us increase our faith? Because you must act upon what faith you already have by obeying Gods' commandments in order to be blessed with greater faith. So, we must be obedient. As we strive to constantly be more obedient, our faith will grow until we desire to have no more. It is similar to a cup. You can't put a gallon of faith inside of a cup of desire. You must present a gallon jug of desire to have a gallon of faith. Thus we see that as you are obedient you will begin to grow in faith, and then we must increase our desire to have more faith with our attempts to be more obedient. Show more Show less
