Hi I'm Derek Rowley

I'm a husband and father of four boys. I am also a serial entrepreneur, strategic consultant and business author. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am the founder of Corporate Service Center, Inc. in Reno, Nevada. Formerly the president of the Nevada Registered Agent's Association, which was at the time Nevada's largest business organization representing almost 300,000 small businesses. I was a lobbyist at the Nevada Legislature for several sessions, and wrote the first law in the U.S. to provide "charging order" protection to the stock of closely-held corporations - which only means something to business and asset protection lawyers. I have been involved in the launch and/or operation of a number of businesses, including small business services, technology, business coaching, a restaurant, a natural foods company and real estate development, among others. My favorite author is Louis L'Amour. I grew up playing the saxophone and love all kinds of music, although I have a hard time finding time for it these days. Im a big fan of Mark Knopfler, Van Morrison, Tower of Power and "classic rock". I have written a couple of books: a business book titled "The Nevada Corporation Handbook"; and e-book titled "Seven Stupid Things Entrepreneurs Do to Ruin a Perfectly Good Business"; and a religious book titled "By Man Least Understood". My family is the most important thing to me. My wife and I have four sons, which means I've coached basketball, baseball, and soccer, and have hiked, camped, fished, backpacked all over the place. I don't dig snow camping anymore.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to an active LDS family, but experienced my own crisis of faith as a freshman in college when I realized that pretty much every important decision that I had made or would make in my life was influenced by the fact that I had been taught that a 14-year old boy said that he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a grove of trees. Once I realized that, I embarked on a journey of my own to find out for myself whether it was true. It took several weeks of prayer, scripture study and fasting before I had an experience that allowed me to serve a full-time mission to Singapore with my own, personal witness that Joseph Smith was truly a prophet of God, and that the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored through him. Since that time, I have had many confirming experiences witnessed to me by the power of the Holy Ghost about the doctrines, ordinances, teachings and priesthood authority of the Church. I have had many experiences while serving in various callings in the Church in which i have received inspiration and impressions that have taught me how much our Heavenly Father loves and is aware of the needs of each of his children. I cannot deny what I know. At this point, I'm all in.

How I live my faith

I am a disciple of Jesus Christ and try to live my life according to His teachings. I rely on Him and the power of His atoning sacrifice to heal my broken heart; to strenghten me so that I can bear the burdens of life; and to lift me up. My faith helps me to not back down from difficult things, which for me includes forgiving those who cause damage in my life. For me, this is not easy, but as I work at it, I am getting better at it. As I do, the Savior makes me a bit more like He is. I believe that forgiveness is the most basic and essential of Christian principles, and is how I can best show that I am a follower of Christ, followed closely by service to others.
