Hi I'm Victoria Ellison

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 48 year old mother of three and have three grandchildren. I am also a contributing writer for two local newspapers/ I have published a novel, short stories and some poetry. Currently, I attend Cleveland State University majoring in journalism.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was 18 I found myself a mother of two and in extreme poverty. Sometimes we had no food. I had traveled to Salt Lake City as a child and after I grew up I had a spiritual experience. After that experience I began to look for a Church. Not any Church but the true Church. I visited many Churches and I even searched through the phone book. Then I remembered the words ?Christ in America". I called my father to ask him did he still have the book we got while in Utah. He said yes. At that time I lived on 40th and Woodland in the projects and my father lived on 12th street downtown. I walked over his house and got the Book of Mormon. Then I went home to read it. But I was lazy, I didn't read right away, but I keep feeling like I should. So every time I got the feeling I would read it. The words of the book had such an impression on me till I looked to see who published it. Then I looked in the phone book for the phone number to The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. I found there was a Church in Cleveland. So, I dialed the number and missionaries answered. I asked them if they could bring me a copy of The Book of Mormon so I could have my own copy. They said yes, they asked me where I lived and came over to my house to deliver the book to me. I prayed a lot about The Book of Mormon. I didn't get a sign but what I got was a deep understanding of the gospel and a feeling of peace and warmth that could only come from God. Since then I was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

I have never regretted a moment that I joined the Church. I write a newsletter for the women that go to my particular Church that is in my area. I have been able to grow in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I remember when I was young I thought living a Christian life was boring, its not. Now, the world seems exciting.. I am not rich but I am happy and content. I have goals a job and I am really grateful to a loving God that sent His Son to save someone like me. I also have a personal loving relationship with Christ. I can talk to God when I feel lonely and scared, troubled or just happy I can also talk to him about my fears, feelings, goals I want to achieve and gospel principles.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Victoria Ellison
The best way I can explain that is the priesthood was taken off the Earth or in short the Church was taken off the Earth for a period of time this is what is referred to as the Apostasy. Where there was a falling away, there was so much commotion after the Crucifixion of Christ that the Romans had to set up another Church that did not function the way Christ established it to control the people. This Church did not have the authority to the priesthood which you have to have the correct authority to the priesthood in order to act in God's name. This meant that the Church had to be restored and the restoration would happen when Joseph Smith was given these keys to the priesthood, by John the Baptist and others that came to Joseph Smith to confer upon him the priesthood. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Victoria Ellison
Yes, He may not perform the same miracles as Moses, but has the capacity to. The Prophet we have on Earth today warns us about the evils of the day and counsels us on evil designs that on the surface look innocent, but are very dangerous. Like cigarette smoking. Do you know that Joesph Smith was given the Word of Wisdom in a Revelation in 1833 and because he had the proper Priesthood authority he was able to receive this Revelation. Not to say that ordinary people don't receive Revelation, but like Moses Joseph Smith receives the Revelation for the Church, It is also important to say there are many Prophets out there today, but there is only one Prophet with the proper Priesthood authority on the earth at a time. So we can know who we can look to for to be God's mouthpiece. If proper Priesthood authority wasn't necessary anyone could say they were a Prophet and you would not know who to listen to.
