Hi I'm Shino

I'm a student at BYU. I love hiking, slacklining, and volleyball. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Hawaii while my parents were going to college there. I lived in Japan for a year as well. I grew up in Western Washington. I am currently a student living in Utah and I absolutely love it. It is such a beautiful place with all the mountains and the wonderful weather. Since I've been here I have enjoyed exploring the mountains and the beautiful scenery. I love playing volleyball and slacklining. I love hiking and skiing. I love spending time with friends and family, whether it's adventuring with them or just relaxing. I am currently preparing to serve an 18 month long mission for the church.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the church because of the joy it brings me. I was born into a family of active members of the church and was raised learning about the gospel. I have always followed the teachings of the church, but I made my own decision that I wanted to be a part of the church when I was 15 years old. Through middle school and the beginning of high school, there were times that I doubted the church and didn't know if what was taught was the truth. I wasn't ready to completely give up on the church though. I wanted the church to be true because of the happiness I felt when surrounded by the people and when being taught the doctrine. I wanted to know for myself that my Father in Heaven loves me and that Jesus Christ suffered for my sins. Through sincere prayer and scripture study, I have come to know that we have a Father in Heaven who loves us more than we can ever know. He has prepared a way for us to return to live with Him again with our families. I know that Jesus Christ, our brother, loves us so much that He suffered for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane so that he could take upon Himself our sins and that we could be made clean. Because of Him, we can repent and become perfected in Him. I know that the commandments are given to us as a protection from pain and suffering. I know that as we follow them, we will be blessed with the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost, who can strengthen us and comfort us. I love the gospel, and I know that because of it, I can continue to become a better person. As I leave for my mission, I am so excited to share the joy that I feel from the gospel with others. I want everyone to be able to come unto Christ and feel of His love. I want everyone to have the opportunity to choose Him and to be able to live with their families in Heaven forever.

How I live my faith

To live my faith, I have helped organize and take part in many youth programs and activities. I have participated in youth choirs and musical programs. I have loved the opportunity my faith has given me to get to know so many people and be able to support each other. As I prepare to share what I believe for the next 18 months in Japan, I am learning the language and the teachings of the church better.
