Hi I'm Rachel

College student, concert goer, love getting my hands dirty with food ingredients, love my family, AND I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am a student at Brigham Young University - Idaho. I am in my fourth year and have one left. I have taken a little longer to finish school than most people but I wouldn't change my time at school for anything else. It has been such a spiritual and emotional growth in so many ways. I am studying Catering and Event Planning and hope to one day own my own bakery. I love baking and cooking and being in the kitchen. I am an avid concert goer! I love to go to as many concerts as possible with friends and mom. We see anyone from Kenny Chesney to David Archuleta and others in between. Along with that, I love to listen to music. You can see me driving down the road with windows down, friends in the car, and music up loud! I love to laugh, smile, and have fun! I'm quiet at first but when you get to know me, I come out of my shell. I'm crazy, fun, and a very happy person. But most of all, I love being with my family! I love being at home and spending time with them. They are my everything! I don't know where I would be without my family. They have been there and supported me in everything I have done in life. I love and appreciate them more then ever before! I'm so happy that I can be with them for eternity!

Why I am a Mormon

I once heard "I'm here because of what I felt, not because of what I know." And that's why I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I may not know all the little details about the Church but growing up and even now, I get no better feelings than when I'm living my life the way that my Savior, Jesus Christ has taught us to live. I know why I'm on this earth, I know what my purpose in life is, and I know where I'm going. I love knowing that my family is eternal. As long as we all live the gospel of Jesus Christ, we will all be together after this life. There's no other place that I would rather be than being a member of Christ's true church restored again on the earth. Yes, I grew up in this church. And yes, I grew up in Utah. But I could have made the choice to leave the church but, like the quote says, "I know what I felt."

How I live my faith

When Sunday comes around each week, I look forward to going to church because I know that I will learn something new and exciting! In the past I have helped with the youth activities in planning and preparing each week. I love that there is a calling for each and every person in the church, no matter how big or small, because really, there are no small callings in the church of Jesus Christ. I love that everyone matters! I try to be the best example I can be to the young kids because I know that when I was their age, I looked up to the older members of the church and saw how they were living their lives. I hope that each day I can be an example, a light of Christ, to everyone I come in contact with. I served an 18-month mission in the California Arcadia Mission. I never wanted to go on a mission but several years ago I had an experience where I shared the Book of Mormon with a family and the joy I got from that was incredible! I do all that I can each day to be an example of Christ and His teachings. I grew up a member of the Church but each day I have to work to grow my faith. I'm thankful for the many opportunities that I have to follow Christ and to try and help those around me to come to know Christ as well.

What is being a Mormon like?

Rachel
Being a Mormon is incredible! I feel safe being a Mormon. Because of the things that I've been taught my whole life, and the things I continue to learn each and every day, I feel safe! That may sound weird but it's true. I know that whatever happens in life, there is a reason for it. I know that Heavenly Father doesn't give us more than we can handle. He loves us! He sent His son, Jesus Christ to earth to live and die for us so we can live and die and return to Them one day. Whenever I'm scared, I can turn to the scriptures (the Book of Mormon and the Bible), I can turn to prayer, and I can turn to the words of our modern day prophets, seers and revelators, and I can feel safe! How can I know Mormonism is true?

Rachel
Growing up I was always taught that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was the only true church on the earth, so I believed it. But as I got older, I realized that I needed to find out personally if it was true. I could no longer live off of what others were telling me. So as I was talking to my mom one day, she told me to read in the Book of Mormon in the book of Moroni, chapter 10 verses 3-5. Which reads, "Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts. And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." And I did just that. After all that I learned as a child, I finally got down on my knees and prayed to my Father in Heaven to know if this, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, was true. And you can do the same! The most simple answer I can give is PRAYER! I know it works! Show more Show less
