Hi I'm Leora

I'm a Mormon. I'm 92 years old, have a cell phone and am still loving life!

About Me

I have 9 children and have many grandchildren and great grandchildren. I'm a retired home economics school teacher and have spent my recent years as a volunteer foster grandparent to elementary school aged children. I keep in touch with my children and grandchildren by phone and letters and still send them all birthday cards. I love reading. I belong to the Escondido Hill's Ward Book Club and have just finished reading "The Seven Miracles that Saved America." My son has just given me the task of writing "My Story" so I am still very busy. It's a big undertaking. I go for a walk everyday and eat healthy. I wouldn't mind living to be 100 if I am still healthy. I still have a lot to live for.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a Mormon all my life. As Mormons we believe in modern day prophets. Joseph Smith was the first prophet of the Restoration. He was only a boy when he read in James 1:5 in the Bible that "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him." Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him in answer to his humble prayer and was told that he would be instrumental in bringing the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ to earth again. I have always had a testimony of Joseph Smith and have always believed in prayer. As a young child I would always kneel by my bedside and pray to Heavenly Father and I would kneel with my family at the dinner table for family prayer. I have seen many miracles and know my prayers are answered.

How I live my faith

My mother was very much a part of my life. She was very faithful. I'll always remember her saying that if you're going down a road and you see a wall before you that you can't go around, through or over that you must keep on going and when you get there a way will open up for you to keep going. That has been one of my guiding philosophies in life. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps me keep a positive attitude and an eternal perspective. There are always worthwhile goals and things to accomplish because of our church's belief in the Lord's Plan of Happiness which is available for all of Heavenly Father's children. I also love the church's teachings about families. We are taught that we can be together forever as families if we spend our lives in service to God and to our fellow man.
