Hi I'm Seth Neil Thomas

I grew up in Lake City, Florida. I've played baseball ALL my life. I'm now a missionary in Utah. I am a Mormon!

About Me

I'm 20 years old. I'm currently a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I'm Serving in Utah! But I didn't always want to be a missionary. I didn't always want to be "Mormon". Why? I felt like it was a sacrifice to live all of the commandments of God. I didn't feel the love that God has for me. I wasn't searching for it. I liked doing my own thing and not listening to anyone. One day I started reflecting on the path I was on and the path that I would end up on if I kept doing things "my way". So I started my own research on the church. I started reading and praying, asking if the Book of Mormon and the church which espouses it to be true. I recieved my answer. I know that this church is true. That Christ DOES live and is at the head of THIS church. I know Joseph is a prophet of God. I know Thomas S. Monson is today's prophet. Warning us and promising us blessings if we obey God's Commandments. I got that answer because i prayed, read, and TRULY wanted the answer. I promise all ya'll who read this that if you read, pray, and really want that answer and intend to act upon it. You too will receive that answer. I found out for myself that when i'm not obeying the commandments i'm really only sacrificing my Eternal Salvation. Because of that, I feel God's love for me. He loves us enough that he gave us commandments and he asks us to follow because he wants us to go back and live with him. That's love. And i know we can all feel it whenever we obey his word

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into this gospel and i've always had the blessing of it in my life. But I always have relied on my parents testimony. There was a point in my life that I wasn't sure if this gospel was true or not. I've always believed that there was a God and that he did interact with us. But i didn't have the testimony about the church. I was doing things wrong, I was hanging out with the wrong group of friends, doing things that I wasnt' supposed to. I just didn't have the spirit with me. I got to the point where i didn't care. I just wanted to do what I wanted to do, and have "fun". When i was about 16, my family and i took a vacation to New York. We were going to see all of the church history sights. We went to the Palmyra and watched the pageant and than we went to Niagra Falls (which was just fun), than we went to Joseph Smith's log cabin that he grew up in. Right behind the house was the Sacred Grove, where at the time i was kind of sceptical, about the First Vision (where Joseph Smith seen God the Father and Jesus Christ). We walked back there and i instantly felt the spirit. As my family walked through I slowly but purposly fell back and eventually found myself alone and i found a bench. I sat down and started praying asking God if this is really where Joseph saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. And if Joseph Smith is truly a Prophet of God. The spirit overcame me and I literally heard a voice in my head say "You know that this is where he saw the Father and the Son. He's real! The church is true! Joseph Smith is a true Prophet of God." I was startled i didn't expect that at all. But it changed me. I gained a testimony! I know that this church is the one and only fully true church on earth! i know Christ died for you and me, and he lives today! I know the father and the son are 2 serperate beings with physical bodies. I know that Thomas S. Monson is the Prophet and todays Mouth-piece for the Lord. I say this in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and savior, Amen

How I live my faith

I have four different callings or positions in the church. Ther's a program for young adults that aren't married between the ages of 18 and 30. They are called the Young Single Adults or the YSA. I hold two positions in the YSA. One is i'm a representative for my ward. The other is we have a program for the YSA's called institute. It's like bible study but we do all of the Standard Works not just The Holy Bible. I'm the 1st counsilor in the Institute Program which is basically like the Vice President. I'm a temporary Ward Missionary. I say temporary because i've been called to serve a two year mission for the Church in Salt Lake City, Utah. The final calling I hold is i'm a Sunday School teacher. I love helping out the younger kids. I LOVE kids! they soak up knowlege so fast. And whether or not we know it, they are watching us and learn and pick up the things that we do and say. They are our Future leaders. The YSA's do have events and fun ones at that often. I enjoy helping setting up and participating in those events.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Seth Neil Thomas
“We do not worship [Joseph Smith] the Prophet. We worship God our Eternal Father and the risen Lord Jesus Christ. But we acknowledge the Prophet; we proclaim him; we respect him; we reverence him as an instrument in the hands of the Almighty in restoring to the earth the ancient truths of the divine gospel, together with the priesthood through which the authority of God is exercised in the affairs of His Church and for the blessing of His people” Gordon B. Hinckley. I would also like to reinstate that we do NOT worship Joseph Smith or any other prophet. I am personally grateful for what Joseph Smith has done. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Seth Neil Thomas
Everyone on this earth is Heavenly Father's literal sons and daughters. He sent us here to forget and then to re-learn His Plan. But there are people on this earth (Past, Present, and Future) who hasn't had the opportunity to hear His truths and to have the opportunity to accept Christ's gospel for themselves. God Loves all of us individually and wants us ALL to be able to return to him. So those who pass away without having that chance to accept his gospel will have their chance. It comes through us living today. We go to the temple to stand as proxy for those individuals so that they can have that chance to either accept or deny Christ's Gospel. That's why we do baptisms for the dead. Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Seth Neil Thomas
I like what President Gordon B. Hinckley said best. He said, "We are not anti-gay, we are just Pro-Family." I totally believe in that. We don't shun anyone because of race, beliefs, sexuality, or gender. We accept everyone, but ask everyone at the same time to follow God's commandments. One of them is to not participate in Homosexual acts or relationships. We can find that in the Holy Bible as well as modern revelation. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Seth Neil Thomas
The Atonement of Jesus Christ consists of His Suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, dying on the Cross, and His resurrection 3 days later. Even though we can't comprehend how the Atonement was made we can all feel of it's influence and effect in our lives. He suffered for EVERYTHING! Alma 7:11-12 talks about him taking on "Pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind." He did that so he can know how to succor us. I like to break the Atonement down into 3 words. At-One-Ment (Meaning with). Jesus Christ went through what He went through so he can know how to help us (be at-one-with us). At the same time we can access His Atonement in our lives and feel of the Holy Ghost stronger (Become At-one-With God) The atonement of Jesus Christ was made for us! "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believe in him should not perish but have everlasting life" God loves us. He wants us back. And the Atonement was made because that was the ONLY way back to Heavenly Father. I love the Atonement and i'm thankful that i have access to it in my life. I know you can as well. Just pray and ask God the Eternal Father in the Name of Jesus Christ to allow you to feel the effects. As a representative of Jesus Christ I promise you that you'll be able to feel His love deeper in your life. I do so in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Show more Show less
