Hi I'm Cristi

I'm a teacher and a traveler. I know kind words work better than harsh ones. I believe life's about finding joy and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I teach math to teenagers. I'm not passionate about math, despite what my students think, but I am passionate about education. I believe knowledge is power and I believe that everyone deserves to have access to it. I'm a cheer leader to the underdog, and I seek out situations where I can do the most good. I'm a fair weather cyclist and jogger. I love how it feels to be tired because you earned it, whether working or playing. I enjoy traveling. I'm thankful that God created this magnificent world--and made it beautiful--just for us. I wish I had more time to see it all.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents and grandparents for several generations back have been members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I have always had good examples who were faith filled and service oriented. My mother was a particularly strong example of one who had a close personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ. I thank all of them for helping me to establish a strong spiritual foundation. However, my testimony is a personal one. I know that God is our Father and He loves every single one of us. He wants us to know His plan for us so that we can be happy and productive in our lives. Knowing His plan doesn't take the difficulties out of life, but it gives me hope, knowing that I'm not alone in my trials and that through them I will become stronger and more prepared to return to Heavenly Father someday. And every time I stumble, which will be more frequently than I'd like, because of the selfless Atonement of Jesus Christ, I can change for the better and He'll always be there waiting to welcome me back. I don't believe because my parents or their parents believe. I believe because I asked God. I am persuaded that this is THE Church of Jesus Christ, and that He is the way to have true joy in this life. There is no denying an answer straight from God. The same promise is available for everyone who asks.

How I live my faith

My membership in this church affects every aspect of my life. It is as much a part of my identity as anything else. It is because of my understanding of the Plan of God that I know who I am in relation to Him. I am a daughter of God and that affects the choices I make and the person I choose to be and work to become. It also affects my interaction with others, who are also children of God. I have seen God's hand in my life in more ways than I can count. I have been comforted in hard times. I have been inspired and guided and warned and chastened. He is part of my everyday life and His love and help are real. I am not perfect, but there are countless opportunities for me to live what I believe. I try to do this by sharing what I know with those around me, supporting those who serve in the church, teaching, spending time mentoring youth, donating time and resources to those in need, participating in service projects, sharing my testimony, spending time every day studying the scriptures and praying, and otherwise trying to do what Jesus Christ would do if He was here. That helps me keep life in perspective. With His help I am able to be a little better every day.
