Hi I'm Melissa

I'm a wife, a teacher, a musician, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up wanting to be an author, a waitress, a concert pianist, and a teacher. As I got older, I stuck with the desire to be a teacher and have piano playing as my main hobby. I fell in love with the piano when I started lessons at age 9 and have never stopped playing since then. I also stuck with being an Elementary school teacher and am currently in my first year teaching 1st grade. Not only have I continued playing the piano, but I have also written songs with lyrics, learned basic guitar chords and best of all I teach piano lessons on weekends. Being a school teacher is an incredibly challenging yet fulfilling career. I love being around children and seeing them grow and learn. It's so awesome! I also am married to my absolute best friend. He's in culinary arts school and I LOVE that he likes cooking because I have no patience for it. We have a great friendship and a good life together. We're living the typical "young, poor and newly married" life and I couldn't be happier!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints which I am so grateful for. I'm a Mormon because of the truthful knowledge I have gained here. I was taught at a young age and know for myself that life after death is real. I love knowing that this earthly life is not the end. By being a member of this church I'm given the gift of being with my family for eternity. I am given tools to handle life's situations, one of which is prayer. Every prayer I have offered has been answered, whether it's because I lost something important or because I have felt completely alone and needed someone to listen. By prayer I have been given strength when I'm tired, comfort when I feel alone, patience when I'm at my wits end and a better perspective when I've gotten caught up in my busy life. God truly is my Father in Heaven and I know He loves me more than I can ever fathom. Imagine the perfect father and He is just that. He listens to me, guides me, gives me council, and loves me unconditionally. I know He loves all his children this way. I'm a Mormon because being a part of this incredible church gives me hope. It gives me faith and direction that I could find no where else. It gives me an eternal purpose and helps me know that I am important to God. I'm a Mormon because I know it is the one true church on this Earth. I'm a Mormon because of the feeling of joy that cannot be found anywhere else. Those are just a few reasons why I am a Mormon and always will be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church every Sunday for 3 hours. This can sometimes be a sacrifice but it is well worth it. Each week I can renew the peaceful, happy feeling that only the Savior can give at the right time and place- in church. I live my faith by reading the Book of Mormon each night with my husband. We read of wars, of wickedness and turmoil unlike anything I can fathom. But most importantly we read about people with unending faith, of miracles happening, and of Jesus Christ visiting people in the Americas. We read of ancient prophets and people teaching the very church that I am a member of today. I love reading the Book of Mormon, I learn something new every time I begin that book over. I also live my faith by fulfilling my calling of playing the piano for the Relief Society each week, an amazing program set up for the women in the church. I live my faith by making my family my number one priority. Right now, I'm doing that by making my husband number one, and in the future, my children as well. I believe that marriage brings a couple closer compared to simply cohabitation. I also believe in the importance of having children and what happiness that brings to people. I live my faith by obeying His teachings and the words of His modern-day Prophet. This truly is the true church and I could never lead my life any other way but around Jesus Christ and His teachings in the LDS church.
