Hi I'm Elaine

I am a wife, mother, grandmother. I am a Carolina girl. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married since 1971. I am the mother of four sons. I enjoy being a grandmother. I have worked as a waitress, a store clerk, a lab tech, a teacher, and a nurse. My favorite color is purple. My favorite animal is an elephant. I enjoy sewing, gardening, movies, crossstitch, and walking on mountain trails.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother and father were Southern Baptists and we went to church for every meeting. We read the Bible in our home. I learned to love Jesus Christ as my Savior and friend and was baptized in the Baptist church when I was 9. I continued to read the Bible, pray and attend church. As a teenage I had a lot of questions about Jesus Christ and the early church and I went to my pastor for help. He did't have the answers to most of my questions and told me not to worry about sacred things because they were a mystery and not meant to be understood. I was not happy with that answer. I had a elderly friend who was Catholic and she invited me to attend church with her. My father and mother were not happy about it, but they agreed to let me attend. I enjoyed the Catholic services, especially the music, but there was something missing. After graduating from high school I attended college away from home.  Every Sunday I attended a different church with my friend Cathy. I was looking for the answers to my questions. I did't find any. I became discouraged and went back to the Catholic church. I left college and began working to support myself and help my family. I started taking lessons to join the Catholic church and become a nun. Meanwhile, my college friend-Cathy had found a church she liked and joined. She came home one weekend and told me about it. We stayed up all night talking. She said she did't have the answers to some of my questions but she knew who did. Cathy called the Mormon missionaries in my area and we set a date for my first discussion. At that first meeting I felt something that I cannot put into words. These 2 young men had the answers to my questions. I began reading the Book of Mormon and praying to know if it were true. I received a clear answer and was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in April of 1971.

How I live my faith

Since joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I have had many opportunities for personal growth, both spiritually and temporally. I am a better wife, mother, grandmother, friend, employee, and neighbor because of the teachings of the gospel. Each day I try to follow the teachings of Jesus. Each day I read my scriptures and pray for the Holy Ghost to guide me. I look at life with a clear understanding of who I am and where I am going. I have had many callings in church, but the one I have done the longest is as a teacher in our children's organization called Primary. I also have been active in the Cub Scout program off and on for 25years.
