Hi I'm Marissa

I come from Southern California. I love to sing and write. One day, I would love to open an amusement park made of chocolate.

About Me

l come from a family of four girls and I'm a So Cal girl through and through. My parents are cooler than me. My dad is a P.E. teacher and my mom is a hospice nurse. They been a wonderful strength in my life as I've pursued shotputting, acapella singing, and academic excellence.Their examples and testimonies have helped make me the strong member of the LDS faith that I am today. I've been kissed on the cheeck by a sea lion at the San Diego zoo. I LOVE Disneyland and the beach, because they make me happy and help me feel closer to my family and the Lord. I'm a sea turtle magnet/ lucky charm that secretly dreams of opening an amusement park made of chocolate. I love to read. My favorite book is A Little Princess as well as the word of God. I like to travel and experience the different cultures and ways of living across the world. I attend BYU Hawaii where I encounter different cultures on a daily basis and I believe nothing has opened my eyes to new understanding more than living with members of the Church from countries whose names sometimes i can't even pronounce. I love BYU Hawaii because I learn about my role as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on a global level.I have clinical depression and find the strength to live each day anew because of the knowledge I have of Christ's atonement.

Why I am a Mormon

I have read the Book of Mormon cover to cover, spent hours contemplating and praying of its validity, and have gained a testimony of its truthfulness. I truly believe that God restored the fullness of truth to a young boy, Joseph Smith, in his greatest hour of need. I feel happy when I live my faith and a feel the love of God. Even when things get tough and I hit a wall, even when it feels like I'm just going through the motions, I know my faith will get me through anything. I remember the times where my life was full of darkness and depression and I turned to the Savior's redeeming love, for both strength and forgiveness. It's then that I remember why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I try my best to live my faith on a daily basis. It means I've tried to find a connection between myself and a higher power by seeking out the Spirit of truth. It means I struggle on a daily basis to fight off temptations to lower my standards of myself. It means I know that what enters my body harms my Spirit and I try my best to abstain from things that will hurt my soul. It means I try my best to live my life in continual service to my fellow men and my God. It means I make a lot of mistakes and mess up big and have to ask for forgiveness. It means I try to invoke change in my life through the atonement of Jesus Christ. It means I know I need His grace to become something better than what I am. It means I occasionally eat a lot of jello and cheesy potatoes while socializing with the people I love. It means I love my family and know I can be with them forever if I make sacred promises to the Lord in a holy temple and continually work to keep those promises of love and commitment. It means I try to have compassion for those around me.( I REALLY struggle with this from time to time.) It means that, like Paul, "I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ". It means I just want to become like Christ. It means that I love you, very much. Yes you, not someone else reading this blog. YOU. I means I would love if you asked me questions about my religion. It means I will always try to be there for you.
