Hi I'm Maria

I was born in Colombia and moved to the U.S. when I was nine. I became Mormon three years later.

About Me

I was born in Bogota, Colombia. I moved to the United States when I was 9. I currently live in North Jersey with my dad, mom, and my only sister, who is a year younger than me. The rest of our family still resides in Colombia. My family and I converted into the gospel when I was 12 years old when the sister missionaries began to visit with my mom. I currently attend Brigham Young University where I am a Pre-Management major with an emphasis on Accounting. I love to watch and play soccer. I love being LDS :D

Why I am a Mormon

As I mentioned previously, my family and I were converted into the gospel in 2010, when I was 12. My mom, sister, and I were at a park near our home. My mom was sitting on the bench while my sister and I played volleyball. A pair of sister missionaries came over to talk to her and my mom knew they were an answer to her prayers. She had been praying for guidance for when my sister and I became teenagers and she knew this was the guidance she needed. My mom committed to attend church the next Sunday and we did. All the members were welcoming and we just felt like we belonged. It took my dad a little longer to accept the gospel because he had grown up with no religious affiliation. When he did, we were happy and decided to be baptized as a family on August 22nd. I know this gospel is the only true gospel on the earth today. I know God is my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is my brother who loves me and wants me to be happy. I know we were meant to be at the park that day. I am grateful for the guidance the gospel has brought into my life and I can't wait to share it with others in a few months.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by following the commandments we are taught to abide by and by sharing this wonderful gospel. I attend church every Sunday to renew my covenants, which are promises we make with God to obey Him and He will bless us in return. I am currently the Visiting Teaching Supervisor and my job is to remind the women of the ward to visit the girls they are assigned to teach. I try to fulfill my calling because it is a way to serve my ward. I also visit teach two women in my ward every month. In addition, my friends and I try to go to the temple every other week because it is where I most feel peace and the love our Savior has for me. It is my favorite place to be and it is where I want to be married some day. That is why I strive to be obedient in diligent in the gospel, to be worthy of being married in the temple.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

We are asked to donate 10% of our income because everything we have is given to us by our Heavenly Father. We are extremely blessed and to show our gratitude and faith, we are asked to donate that part of our earnings. These are used to build church buildings and temples as well as help those in need.
