Hi I'm Jake

I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I love my Oiler's. I am now in West Virginia serving a mission. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love to watch and play sports. I have worked as a carpenter for the last year and enjoy it. I love to hang out with friends and do all sorts of things. Anything from going to movies, chilling or going to a party. I am willing to try almost anything if I think it might even be a little fun. I am serving a 2 year mission in the West Virginia Charleston Mission, but have yet to serve in West Virginia, only in Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. It has been the chance of a life time for me to learn and grow. There is nothing like the hills and the hollows to keep life exciting.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon because I wanted to know what to do with my life. I was at a point where some big decisions needed to be made and I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I was wondering if God was really there and if he even cared about me. So I decided I was going to ask God. I prayed my first totally sincere prayer wanting to know what to do with my life. Right after I saw a Book of Mormon so I started reading it. The love and peace I felt in that moment as I read the scriptures changed my life forever. I wanted that feeling to be with me forever. From that point I changed my plans to involve the church so I will always have it in my life. I know that when I do what I am supposed to do, my life has been happier and peaceful. As bad things happen I am able to grow from them and move on. They don't weigh me down like they did before because I know that I always have Jesus Christ to turn to for help and support.

How I live my faith

I live my faith now by offering two years to teach others far away from home. I know the peace it has brought to my life, and I want to help everyone I can learn how it can make their life so much better. I have learned so much by just teaching and seeing others and learning about their life and seeing first hand as they accept the gospel how it makes them happy. Its not always the easiest thing to talk to strangers about Jesus Christ but when people really want to open their hearts it can truely change their life.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Jake
We go out so that we can help people all over learn about our church. There are many myths and misunderstandings about mormons. As a missionary I am able to correct many ideas that people have about what we truely believe. And if they want to learn more about us we are able to teach them how they can grow closer to God. We don't force religion on anyone, we simply invite people to learn more if they want too. Show more Show less

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Jake
They will talk to you about Jesus Christ. He is what all our message is about. Because He loves us he has given us tools to bring ourselves closer to him. The missionaries will then show you things you can try and see if they really do help. All they ask is that you pray for yourself and have an open heart. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Jake
It is varies for different people. Some need help to get them on their way from either family or friends and others are blessed with a chance to save money on their own through working all sorts of different jobs. Either way it is a sacrifice that pays off in the long run. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Jake
Joseph Smith was a man who asked a question. This lead him to seek God out to find direction in his life. Through an answer to his prayer, God and Jesus Christ came to him and called him to be a prophet. Just as God called men to help those that were around them in their days, God called Joseph Smith to serve those around him and be a mouth piece to declare his word in these days. Show more Show less
