Hi I'm Scott

I love backpacking, board games, and being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ!

About Me

I adore my family. They are incredible! I have an amazing mom and dad, two sisters, and a brother. I love them more than anyone else in the world! I care about being a good friend and being my best self. You probably know how easy it is to have more interests and passions than you do time or money, but I figure it's ok to love everything, because that just gives me more opportunities to remember what is most important in my life. I adore the outdoors! Downhill mountain biking, caving, camping, trail running, stargazing, rock climbing, you name it. I'm passionate about music, be it classical piano, jazz trombone, or singing. I'm fascinated by photography, politics, good books, and cooking. I had the incredible privilege to serve my fellow men and my Savior for two years as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Switzerland. I learned what it means to be caring, hardworking, and tolerant. I know what it's like to have people dislike you just because of how you look, but also how it feels to know you changed someone's life forever. Even now, the ups and downs of life make for a wild ride, but I'm glad I have a secure anchor -- my Savior Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

Life can be stressful. It can be wonderful. And sometimes it's really, really hard. I am grateful that Heavenly Father helps me constantly, especially when I don't deserve it. I KNOW that He loves me, because I see evidence of His care and mercy in my life. I love being Mormon because when I try do what Jesus would, I feel happier, more hopeful and optimistic, and feel more deeply the need to develop my talents and help others. The opposite is also true. It makes ALL the difference. Nothing could be a more powerful evidence that what I am living is true. Because it is true, and means everything to me, I will be a member of this church for the rest of my life. It is my firm conviction that God lives. He hears my prayers, and He hears yours! It is because of His Son, Jesus Christ, that I receive so constantly undeserved help and unearned opportunities to start anew, and leave behind me all of my mistakes and shortcomings. What astounds me is that I continually fall short, yet He is always willing to forgive me and help me be a little better. Jesus Christ is resurrected. He is real. He leads His Church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, through wise, humble men called as prophets and apostles. Living their teachings improves my life profoundly. I am closer to my family, and really do feel safe in this unsure, chaotic world. I feel peace even when it seems like everything is going wrong. Best of all, I feel closest to my Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

As I was teaching people in Switzerland about Heavenly Father and His plan for us, I learned to recognize the feeling that comes when God is pleased-- He sends His official messenger, the Holy Ghost, to teach me and give me inner peace and deep joy. That feeling comes often as I listen to and try to help a friend who is going through a rough time, or talk to other students about their lives, challenges, and efforts to live God's plan. Being at church every week strengthens my trust in God, and helps me draw closer to Christ, my family, and my friends. I love the good feeling there, especially as I take the sacrament (bread and water) to remember Jesus' sacrifice and love for me. I think about how He has helped me in the past week, and what I can do in the coming week to be more grateful-- and more like Him. I try to show Him my trust by keeping His commandments. The happiest periods in my entire life have been when I obey Him and stay close to His Church. He is really there.
