Hi I'm Paul Baclawski

I've been a geologist in the oil industry for 35 years and I love my family and my job. And, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in New Mexico and lived there for a few years before moving to northern California, where I spent my formative years. When I was entering High School we moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where I gradualted from High School and attended UTA for a year before leaving to serve a mission in England. After returning I met and married my wife, Karen, and attended BYU, graduating with a BS and MS in Geology. I went to work for a company in Denver and was transferred to Fort Worth where I was laid off as part of a general staff reduction. I went to work for a small operator, also in Fort Worth, before moving to Houston, where I worked for a service company before organizing my own oil company. My partner and I operated properites n the East Texas salt dome country befor being hired by a large company in Houston. They were bought in the late 1990s and the new company moved me to Oklahoma City, where I have ived and worked since 1999. I have one child, a daughter who coaches soccer at a private university in Texas. I have traveled extensively with my job, visiting Nigeria (which I enjoyed), Saudia Arabia, Yemen, and Canada.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I was raised to study things out and evalute their truthfulness as I go. While I don't believe in biological evolution, I do believe that each individual has the ability to progress as far as their own abilities and faith in the Savior will take them, even into the eternities. We are all empowered to find out for ouselves what is true and what is not, and to act on the basis of that knowledge. I have had some physical challenges in my life (foot amputation, heart surgery), but I am better person for enduring those things and continuing to stay on the sunny side of the street. I know that God loves me because He has touched my heart on those dark, lonely, nights and I know I can rely on his love and mercy as I go forth.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving as a member of the stake presidency, reponsible for administering the church in this part of Oklahoma City (which really means I don't do much, I just hang out and watch others work). I have been a Bishop twice (in Houston as well as here in Oklahoma City), and have held teaching and leadership positions over time. I have fun at church and mingling with the members. I try to lead with a smile and show that I am as happy as I feel.
