Hi I'm Sarah Mortensen

I'm a high school student in Springville Utah. Music is my life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love music. Every spare minute I have is spent playing piano or guitar or writing my own music. I have been taking piano lessons for about twelve years. I think music is the best way I can express myself. It's also the best way the I can feel the Spirit in my life. I love serving and being active in my community. I've served on my city's Youth City Council for three years. I love helping others and getting to know my community. I believe that a simple smile and a compliment can make someone's day. I try to smile at at least one person I don't know every day.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been raised in the church my entire life. Everyone in my family is a member as well. The gospel is the greatest source of happiness in my life. Why am I a mormon? Well, I can't imagine what my life would be like without the gospel. Every day I can look around me and see God's hand in my life. I have had many experiences in my life where I have felt my Heavenly Father's love for me. I have a testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. I know that without a doubt. I haven't always known that though. Growing up, I just believed things because that was what my parents believed. I now have my own testimony of prayer. I know that God hears me when I pray to Him. When I was younger, I had lost a library book, so I prayed and then a few minutes later I found it. It wasn't a huge deal, but it meant a lot to me, and I still remember it. There was another time when I was baby-sitting and the child I was trying to put to sleep was crying and fussing and wouldn't lay down. I was getting frustrated, so I closed my eyes and prayed that the baby would relax and fall asleep. When I opened my eyes, she was asleep in my arms. That was a small miracle to me. Sometimes, I feel alone and sad about things going on in my life. I know that if I pray, God will tell me that I am never alone and that He loves me more than I can possibly comprehend.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being an example in everything I do. People may think that since I live in Utah, it's always easy to live the gospel because there are so many members here, but that isn't always true. I have to be an example in the way I dress, the way I speak, and even the way I act around others. Even though it isn't exactly popular to wear modest clothes these days, I feel more comfortable and the boys around me feel more comfortable when I do. Sometimes I have to stand up for what I believe when people around me are saying things that make me uncomfortable. I have made an effort to be involved in church activities in my singles ward since I've been away at school. It can be hard to find time for church activities in my crazy college schedule, but I know that if I work on scripture study and try to improve my self spiritually first, all the areas of my life will fall into place. I think that having a positive attitude is also a part of living my faith. God's plan is a plan of happiness, so by being happy and lifting up others, I am sharing Christ's light with others around me.
