Hi I'm Mary Ann

I'm from the great state of Texas, I'm probably the coolest person you'll meet and yes, I am a Mormon.

About Me

Hi, my name is Mary Ann and I am from Texas. I am 21 years old and I come from a large family (and I love it!). I am currently preparing to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brasil. I am really excited to be able to serve the Lord and to teach this gospel that I love so much. I also enjoy running (most of the time) and I have run a half marathon in the past and I'll hopefully stop being lazy and run some more. When I grow up I want to be a doctor; right now though, I am just a college student and majoring in microbiology. I love country music and well, anything related. I love doing new things including going skydiving and learning how to scuba dive. And although I have never been outside of the United States, I really just want to travel the world! Mostly though, I just want to make the world a better place because I lived here.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love it! I have also come to know of its truth. I am a Mormon because Jesus Christ loves us enough to not only live for us, but to suffer for our sins at Gethsemane and then die for us on the cross of Calvary. These acts allow salvation to be brought to pass as "there is no other name given whereby salvation cometh" (Mosiah 5:8). It allows us to be resurrected and to live with God again. The power of the atonement is real and I have felt its cleansing effect in my life. I am a Mormon because I have felt the peace and power of the Holy Ghost in my life as it has testified to me of the truth of the gospel. I am a Mormon because as I read the Book of Mormon and the Bible side by side, the words correspond and testify of each other. They are both true records! I am a Mormon because family relationships can be perpetuated beyond the grave. I am a Mormon because my Mom had the faith to ‘come unto Christ’ as a young teenager. I am a Mormon because a young boy named Joseph Smith sought to know which church was true in a grove of trees where the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him. They revealed to him there that none of the churches at that time were true. As testified in Amos, there was a "famine in the land ... of hearing the words of the Lord" where the people "shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it" (Amos 8:11-12). After this long range of apostasy and not having the fullness of the words of God upon the earth, it was necessary for God to restore the church once again to its former condition, as in the days of Christ. Joseph Smith was the instrument in the Lord’s hand to help bring about this restoration. He was a true prophet of God, just as the prophets of old and the prophet today. I am a Mormon because I choose to be. I love my church and I am grateful for its truth. It has given me a pure happiness in life not found from any other source.

How I live my faith

My faith is intertwined with everything else that I do; they are inseparable. It impacts every area of my life. I strive to live by the words in the scriptures and let my words and actions stand as a witness and testimony that Christ lives and through Him we can be cleansed from our sins. I also do the basics by going to church, reading my scriptures daily and by praying to my Father in Heaven. I am not even close to perfect, but I am trying. I am trying to follow the Savior’s example and trying to be the person that he would want me to be. The next year and a half, though, I have the opportunity to give all of my time and energy to the Lord and His as a full-time missionary for the church in the service of the Lord. I will be able to share the wonderful message of the restored gospel and bring that peace and happiness I know into the lives of others.
