Hi I'm Mary Ellen

I grew up in Colorado. I love the great outdoors. A mother of three wild boys, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of three energetic boys, and a wife to a large animal veterinarian. I grew up in Colorado in the mountains. I love to fish, hike, and spend time outdoors. I have nine brothers and sisters. I love family gatherings where we can talk and laugh together. I love music. I play the piano, and have played flute and violin. After high school, I travelled to Russia and China to teach English with a non-profit organization called I.L.P. It was a GREAT learning experience for me. When I turned 22 I served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I served a Spanish-speaking mission in Mesa Az. That too was a great experience. After my mission, I finished a BA degree in Health Science, which is another passion of mine-health. However, the greatest experience so far in life as been marrying someone I love and having a family. It has brought great challenges, but greater joy.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I continue to attend this church whole heartedly because I believe and know in my heart that this is Christ's church. It is the same organization that Christ established when he was on the earth and when he ordained apostles and gave them power and authority to act in His name and to perform His work. The Church of Jesus Christ was restored again in its fullness to the earth after an apostasy and loss of truth and authority after the original apostles were killed. God called and ordained Joseph Smith to be a prophet in our day. Through the Prophet Joseph Smith God revealed lost truths and gave him the power and authority to act in His name. That same power and authority continues this day through a true and living prophet named Thomas S. Monson. He receives revelation and guidance from God for our day. A question I often ask, "If God loves us like He loved those before us, why wouldn't he send a prophet to us today like he did in past times?" "Why would He only open the Heavens and reveal truth through prophets of old for those people, and not us?" I am thankful that I know that God does live, He hears our prayers, and the Heavens are not closed. He does send us a prophet and apostles to help guide us in these latter days.

How I live my faith

I actively participate in my church. In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all members have the opportunity to serve or hold assignments, like teaching, leadership, serving and visiting others. This is all voluntary service. From a very young age, my mother has been a great example of service. I truly believe that the true happiness in life comes from serving and loving others. Especially if I feel discouraged, overburdened, sad, or lonely, service is the only thing that helps my attitude change or comforts me. The Savior is the greatest example of love and service. When we serve others we are also serving our God. In the Bible, in the book of Matthew chapter 25:40 we read, ". . .Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

What is faith?

Mary Ellen
Faith is to believe and hope in something that is not seen but true. We have faith in Jesus Christ because he is our creator and God has given him power over all things. When we have faith in Jesus Christ, we believe that he can do all things. When something doesn't go well or as planned we seem to lose what we think is faith because our prayer wasn't answered. But that is not faith or a lack of faith. We have to remember that when believing that God has all power to do all things, it is still His will that we submit ourselves to. Show more Show less
