Hi I'm Stephen

I am a father of four, a husband, a musician, and a manager of software developers. And, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

By day, I manage a team of software developers for the largest company in the world. Nights and weekends, I love to play music with my kids and my friends.

Why I am a Mormon

My family joined the Mormon church when I was eight years old. Growing up, the church provided standards, guidance and direction in my life. I did not make many of the mistakes my friends did because of this. Now that I am a husband and a father, I have great happiness in my life because of the same standards, guidance and goals. And, now it is my turn to teach my children about them! I cannot imagine how I could be a successful father and husband without the teachings of the Mormon church. Actually, I guess I can. I see my non-Mormon friends struggling everyday with issues and challenges that I do not have because of my church. Also, I believe that I have an obligation to help others. I believe that this is what God wants us to do. We are not here on this earth for selfish reasons. We are here to help each other. The Mormon church gives me the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of others. Each Sunday, I go to a church where I am one of a few hundred people, not a few thousand people. We are like a community. Everyone has a job and we all depend on each other. We help each other out and lift each other up during the rough times. I am so grateful for this community, centered around Jesus Christ, and for the opportunity it gives me to serve. I am grateful to be a Mormon because of what the religion has taught me about my Savior. I know that he is my friend, my brother, my redeemer. He loves me. He is not some unknowable being, shrouded in mystery. He is real. He is with me everyday. I know why I am on this earth experiencing mortality. I know where I came from and where I will go after death. I know my Father in Heaven has a plan for me to be happy in this life, and in the next. It is not a mysterious, complex plan. It is simple and it is wonderful. It is like knowing, "the rest of the story". I am a Mormon because it brings me happiness. It can for you too.

How I live my faith

I am the Executive Secretary in my church congregation. This means that I am the secretary or assistant for the Bishop (our Minister). Since we do not have paid ministry in our church, the Bishop also works a full time job. I enjoy assisting him with all his responsibilities. I know he makes great sacrifices for our congregation and I am happy to help him out. When I go to work everyday (my 9-5 job), I try to be an example of the Savior. I try to do what he would have me do. I try to make a difference in people's lives. I try to share the great blessings I have because of my faith, with others.
