Hi I'm Laurie

I grew up in Irvine, California. I am a mother of six and a grandmother of ten. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have raised six daughters and one son. I love being a grandmother and I have seven grandsons and three granddaughters, all under the age of seven. I have one daughter who is a single mom and I watch her children while she goes to work, which I love doing. At night I do medical transcribing from home. Because of the economy, we have recently experienced financial reversal, but we are picking up the pieces and moving forward, enjoying this stage of life. We just moved from our home, and I am getting to know people in my new area. I love to play with my grandchildren, cook, play the piano and sing. I love to read, and I find to time to read everyday.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons). Both of my parents are members, and when I turned 8 I was baptized into this church. I have had a testimony of the truthfulness of this gospel for as long as I can remember. I know that Jesus is the Christ. I know that He suffered for my sins, was crucified and arose the on the third day as a resurrected being. I know that the Father and the Son appeared to a 14-year-old boy named Joseph Smith in 1820 and told him that none of the churches on the earth at that time were true. I know the true gospel of Jesus Christ was restored through Joseph Smith. I know the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Joseph Smith translated this ancient record so that we could benefit from its teachings in our day. I know that Thomas S. Monson is our prophet today. I know that God loves His children and reveals His word for our day through President Monson. I know these things because I have prayed about them and I have found out for myself that they are true. I have felt the Lord's guidance in my life. I have received my own promptings that have helped me make decisions in every aspect of my life. I cannot imagine trying to raise my children without this guidance. I have been through trials in my life that I would not have been able to go through without the inspiration that I have felt from my Heavenly Father. I love my Savior. I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to know from a young age where I came from and where I am going, and what the purpose of life is. I feel truly blessed.

How I live my faith

I have been privileged to work in several callings (assignments) in the church throughout my life. I loved working with the young children, the youth and the women of the church. I have been blessed to participate in visiting teaching every month, which gives me the chance to visit women who I have been assigned to visit, teach a short lesson and see how they are doing and if I can be of any service to them. My callings have blessed and enriched my life. I have grown to love and appreciate the people I have served and the people I have worked with. I have made many lasting friendships as a result. I have seen the Lord's hand in my life as I have served. He has blessed me in countless ways. I am grateful for the callings that I have had and the opportunities they have given me to grow.
