Hi I'm Joe

I love sports, music, family, and fun. I'm a busy, full time college student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Colorado and Utah with a wonderful family that has loved me and supported me in my ups and downs. I'm heading into my last year of college and I look forward to being a Spanish and History teacher in high school. I absolutely love teaching and working with youth. I really appreciate the mentors that I have had in my life and I look forward to hopefully being a good, uplifting, and positive mentor for others now and in the future. I'm a sports guy and love play, learn about, and watch them when I get the chance. But while I may seem to eat and breath sports, I'm no jock! I recently learned to ballroom dance and play the guitar, making me feel a bit more cultured and sophisticated. I love life, I love my family, and I love the Lord.

Why I am a Mormon

There is nothing that has brought me more peace and purpose in my life than the knowledge that I not only have a Heavenly Father that loves me but also that He has a plan for me. Though I was born into this church I had to find out for myself whether I was indeed in the right place. I had read from the Book of Mormon with the desire to know if it is indeed the word of God as the Bible and I decided to seriously test it's promise that if I prayed to God about it's truthfulness, then He would tell me. And to me, this is the beauty of the promise: ask God! Not your pastor, friend, or parent. If my desire is to truly follow God, then surely it is His opinion that matters most! I will never forget the night that I knelt in prayer to ask Him about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. I had received answers about prayers before and this was no exception. The feelings that I felt are hard to describe, but I did feel confident and joyful that this is indeed the word of God. I am a Mormon because God himself loved me enough to answer my sincere prayer for guidance and I promise you that the same can happen to you in you sincerely ask Him in faith. Knowing that the Book of Mormon is true led to a sure knowledge that Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet of God as was Moses, Noah, and so many others mentioned in the Bible. God still speaks to us today through a living prophet! I am so very grateful that He loves us just as He loved those in ancient times, giving us instructions not only through holy scripture but also through His prophets, living mouthpieces for the Lord Jesus Christ. Am I a Mormon? You betcha! Am I a Christian? Of course. It is Jesus Christ that I follow. This is His Church that He leads through His servants the prophets. There is no way I could be anything in this life it weren't for His great love and sacrifice for me. As Paul of old would say, I can do all things through Christ. He is my source of inspiration and strength.

How I live my faith

For me, being a Mormon or follower of Christ doesn't only mean being well dressed and quiet for a few hours on Sunday. My main goal is to learn from Christ and try to be like Him each day. Let's face it: I have a really long ways to go, but it feels so good to be kind or to be Christlike. I have my weaknesses, off days (and weeks), and failures, but I know that the purpose of this life is not to be perfect right away (kind of impossible if you ask me), but rather to consistently progress towards that. I like the saying that God doesn't care as much as where you've been as to where you are and where you are willing to go with His help. I know that God answers sincere prayers and that He wants to help me in my daily life. That doesn't mean that I solely depend on direct guidance from Him in every situation, but rather that as I strive to make right decisions that as long as I try to follow Him that He will steer me in the right direction should I stray. I am very grateful that He is patient with me as I struggle on through life. I have the opportunity to share my beliefs often with the various responsibilities that my church service provides me. I love teaching and I love working with the youth. They have such great potential and I believe that each person has good inside of them and that they want to have a positive impact on the world. Sometimes it is hard to find that but I believe that we do indeed find what we are looking for in people, be it good or bad. Just as God finds the good in me and helps me to fulfill my potential, I believe that He expects me to be patient with others and find the good and positive things in their lives and actions.
